Paper Craft Crew’s sketch last week was horizontal, this week’s is vertical. I decided I wanted to use the Sail Away suite of DSP, stamp set, and dies.
Here’s my card:
Here’s the challenge banner:
DSP, Stamps, and Dies – oh my!
This DSP will retire when the new catalog goes live on June 3rd. However, the stamp set and dies will carryover. Yeah!
I tried to keep the card clean for this challenge. Instead of the splatters on the challenge sketch, I chose the sailboats DSP. The boats are cleanly sailing along and give the same kind of movement as the splatters on the challenge sketch. Instead of the splatters on the top third, I ran the white cardstock through my Big Shot using the Subtle 3D embossing folder. I made sure that the texture is horizontal so it stays in line with the sailing boats on the DSP and the front frontal circle.
The colors in the DSP set determined the colors I chose for this card. Definitely navy and white, which I used in the bordering strip running across the top of the DSP. Since I did not want to dry emboss that strip, I chose to add two die cut white ropes. I think it works to keep the horizontal elements going, but is also clean.
Adding Elements
Balmy Blue appears in other DSP patterns in this pack, so I chose it for the sea water. It works for the sea water on the front focal circle and on the bottom of the inside of the card. The boat and the sentiment were both stamped in black. After I cropped out the sailboat, I carfeully stamped some more Balmy Blue over the water on the boat stamp. I cropped the white circle using the Stitched Shapes dies and the Night of Navy circle mat using the Layered Circles die.
Dimensionals provide some height under the sentiment banner and the sailboat. I also wanted some height under the focal circle, but not that of a full dimensional. Therefore, I grabbed some of my large 1/2 inch glue dots and put three under the circle. These provide just a bit of height, and enough to even out the height of the navy strip and white rope.
I used the same Balmy Blue for the sea water on the inside, and cropped the sailboat using the die set. Since the stamp set is a cling set, I had to be careful with the placement of the inside sentiment. It would have been easier to get it straight if I used my Stamp-a-ratus.
Finally, I adhered a piece of the same DSP to the flap of the envelope. With that, I’d finished this card/envelope set.

It’s kind of ironic that I chose to use the Sail Away bundle for #GDP204 since we have been waiting to find out what track Dorian is going to take. Latest tracks have it moving more westerly, but this cat 5 storm is moving slowly and so much is still uncertain. What to do while waiting? Make cards, of course. Lots of cards.
Here’s the #GDP204 challenge sketch:
Here’s the card I created:
The Process
I really wanted to have some white space on the top and bottom of this card, but didn’t want just white cardstock. I decided on this Balmy Blue pinstripe DSP, and am happy with the decision. It really sets the tone for a nautical card.
The DSP mat in the middle did not require much thought at all. I like the large compass roses, but the empty space between them opens up the design.
The Balmy Blue layer was the most difficult decision to make. I tried other options, and finally decided to crop the cardstock using the Rectangle Stitched Dies, then ran it through the Subtle 3D folder.
I stamped both the sentiment and the boat in Memento Tuxedo Black, and decided not to color the boat. Again, I was looking for open space. I cropped both the sentiment and the boat using the dies from the bundle.
The finishing touches were the Navy and Crumb Cake baker’s twine, to which I attached the anchor trinket using linen thread.
I popped the Balmy Blue layer up on dimensionals to accomodate the twine, then assembled the card pieces.
Dorian
The track for Dorian is still uncertain, but it appears to be tracking a little farther west, which means we are in for at least tropical storm winds and rain, rain, and more rain.
After I clean up my desk, which I haven’t done completely since 6 cards ago, I am going to have to blog a number of cards and set them to post at intervals. Never know when, or if, we will still have power in a few days.
If you are in the path of this monster of a storm, please take all precautions and follow evacuation orders, if necessary. While there are many memes floating around the internet regarding Floridians and hurricanes, we do take it seriously. I hope you do as well, if you are going to be impacted.
Happy Labor Day!
Many Thanks and a Supply List

Sailing Home photopolymer stamp set, item # 149457
Each product in the Sailing Home suite works together to create stunning nautical cards for unisex cards. I used just a few pieces of the dies, two pieces of DSP, the Crumb Cake and Night of Navy baker’s twine, Night of Navy and Crumb Cake cardstock, some ink, and a Sailing Home trinket for the FabFri169 challenge. This clean and simple card came together very quickly, and would be easily replicated for mass production.
Here’s the challenge banner from Fab Friday:
This simple sketch lends itself to a multitude of interpretations. Here’s the card I created:
A Simple Process
Night of Navy cardstock provides the base, with the first pattern of DSP for the background. I used the Layering Circle die set to crop the compass from another piece of DSP. I especially like the size of the DSP compasses, which really worked for this sketch challenge.
Crumb Cake cardstock provided the base of the lighthouse. I stamped it with Night of Navy ink and cropped using the lighthouse die. I also used Night of Navy ink for the sentiment. This sentiment fits perfectly in the banner from Smooth Sailing dies. In order to add some depth to the sentiment banner, I outlined it using an Early Espressso marker. I still thought the sentiment needed additional dimension to stand out, so I used a Crumb Cake marker to color in the stitches in the ditch.
After adhering the DSP compass where I wanted it, I wrapped the baker’s twine around the base of the card three times and tied it in a square knot. Then I pulled a small length of the nylon thread which allowed me to attach the trinket to the square knot in the baker’s twine. The lighthouse and sentiment are popped up on dimensionals, as is the base to accomodate the baker’s twine.
Once again, I finished by decorating the envelope by stamping a lighthouse on the front left, and added more of the compass DSP on the flap.
