Welcome back to the bi-weekly Cardz 4 Guyz challenge! Our host for # 334, Deb, chose a circle card for the theme. When you finish here, I hope you will visit the challenge site to see the rest of the creations from the other design team members. I am always so impressed not only by the creative individuality but also by the wide variety of interpretations for each theme.
For my circle card, I chose to use some new holiday DSP along with the retired Christmas Means More stamp set, and a Grinch stamp that I picked up somewhere along the line.
I used a tutorial from Einat Kessler for this card, but made a few adjustments to the measurements. You can find her tutorial here.
Here’s my card:
This sentiment is a take on one of my favorite Grinch quotes. I just love The Grinch, it’s a classic (the original, not the live-action one), written and illustrated by one of my favorite authors, and one of our cherished Christmas traditions. The Granny Apple Green and Poppy Parade colors are perfect for this card. The DSP (designer series paper) comes from the Merry Bold and Bright DSP found in the September through December mini-catalog.
Measurements:
The Poppy Parade cardstock base measures 6-1/2 by 5-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches. You should have a 2 inch flap for the front of the card.
The Christmas lights DSP for the inside measures 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches.
I used the same DSP for the envelope flap which measures 2-1/2 by 6 inches.
The Christmas tree DSP on the front flap measures 1-7/8 by 5-1/4 inches. I also punched a 1-inch circle of this DSP for the envelope seal, which I ran through my XYRON create-a-sticker.
The white cardstock under the Christmas tree DSP measures 5-3/8 by 2 inches.
I used a half sheet (5-1/2 by 8-1/2 inches) of Poppy Parade and white cardstock to create the circles. The Poppy Parade circle has a diameter of 5 inches. The white cardstock circle has a diameter of 4-3/4 inches.
HINT: I’ve had a couple of the following compasses for many, many years. They make it so easy to create circles larger than a punch or die would be able to create. The Amazon link is below.
The white cardstock for the inside measures 5-1/8 by 3-1/4 inches.
Assembly:
I only used multipurpose liquid glue to adhere all the pieces of the card together.
Create and fussy cut the circle out of Poppy Parade cardstock.
After using a pencil to create the white cardstock circle, do all your stamping using Momento Tuxedo Black ink.
Color the holly and berries using the Granny Apple Green and Poppy Parade blends combo markers.
After all the ink dried, I fussy cut the circle. Trust me – let it dry.
I stamped Grinch in black ink on the inside piece of white cardstock. Color with the same blends combo markers and adhere to the inside.
The inside sentiment comes from a past Paper Pumpkin stamp set, and is stamped in Poppy. Parade ink.
HINT: I decided where to adhere the Ginch piece by dry-fitting the circle over the front. I wanted to make sure that the inside white cardstock wouldn’t show under the circle. I did have to round the corners to accomplish this.
After adhering all the DSP and the two circles, it’s time to fold over the circles to create the flap on the back. I wound up scoring a line 3/4 of an inch on the right side of the circle. Burnish the scoring line well.
Use liquid glue to adhere the flap to the back of the card base.
I wanted to make sure the card would stay closed on its own, so I used two clear circular Velcro dots on the flap and the inside of the circle. You can find the Amazon link for them below as well.
With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.
Welcome to the Cardz 4 Guyz Challenge, #284. For this challenge, Helen has chosen gingham checks or plaids. I hope when you are finished here, you will hop over to the challenge website to see what the rest of the design team created! There’s quite a variety of inspiration just waiting for you!
I know I am late with this post. Last night my internet went out around 7 pm my time. The provider’s messages said it would only be down for an hour. It came back up at 5:30 am my time, which is after this post was supposed to go live. Anyway, I am late.
Once I had my DSP pattern and colors chosen, the happy Grinch seemed to be a natural choice. The sentiment is from last year’s Christmas Means More stamp set, with which I couldn’t part. I can’t remember where I got the Grinch stamp, but am fairly certain I found it on Etsy.
Here’s my card:
Measurements:
While there are more measurements than usual, the card really comes together quite with multipurpose glue and dimensionals.
The Real Red base measures 5-1/2 inches by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches.
The white cardstock layer measures 5-3/8 inches by 4-1/8 inches. I stamped the sentiment on white cardstock and cropped it using the largest square in the Stitched Shapes die set. There’s also white cardstock on the inside, and it measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
This DSP (designer Series Paper) comes from the Gingerbread and Peppermint 6” x 6” DSP, found in the current mini-catalog. It measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
I used a polka dot pattern from the same DSP pack for the envelope flap. It measures 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches.
Next, I used two squares of Old Olive cardstock. The first layer (right under the sentiment) measures 2-3/4” square. The bottom layer (adhered to the DSP) measures 3-3/8” square.
The Real Red layer on the front measures 2-7/8” square. You will need a second piece of Real Red cardstock measuring 3-1/4” by 2-1/2 inches. I used this piece for the Grinch tag. Next, I stamped Grinch on a scrap of white cardstock, which I trimmed to 2 inches by 3-1/8 inches.
What I Did:
I stamped the Grinch in Momento Tuxedo Black on the white cardstock, which allowed me to use my Stampin’ Blends with which I could color him. The two blends combos I used were the light and dark Old Olive and Real Red. I colored his eyes with the So Saffron light blend. Once he was completely dry, I adhered him to the Real Red piece I trimmed for the tag. This Real Red ribbon provided a bow, but it’s also used to pull the tag up from the sentiment layers.
I also used Tuxedo Black for the sentiment. The Stampin’ Write markers seemed better for this coloring, and I used Real Red and Old Olive markers for the mistletoe.
The front of the card just required some very careful layering.
The white cardstock and the DSP are adhered with multipurpose glue.
I put the whole pocket/sentiment piece together before I adhered it to the front of the card.
There are dimensionals under the sentiment square to pop it up. I had the Old Olive scallop trim already in my page protectors of those scraps, and decided to use it here. The sentiment went down on the smaller Old Olive square.
Then I used multipurpose glue to adhere the Old Olive to the Real Red layer.
In order to accommodate the Grinch tag, I used mini-dimensionals on three sides of the red layer to attach it to the bottom Old Olive layer. The tag needs to slide in and out easily, so be careful of the placement of the mini-dimensionals.
That’s it for the front.
Finishing Up:
Here’s the inside:
I used the Christmas Cheer sentiment from the Perfectly Plaid stamp set for the inside of the card. I also stamped Ho Ho Ho from that stamp set on the bottom of the inside panel and on the bottom front of the envelope.
With that, I’d finished this coordinated card and envelope set.

Sundays are usually the day during which I am supposed to be working on lesson plans. I did get that done, but I also got to relax by creating two cards. This card meets Color Throwdown #619 for aqua, red, and silver, which ends tomorrow at 6 pm.. It also meets The Paper Players #517 for a clean-and-simple holiday card.
Without further ado, here’s my card:
Here are the ctd619 and PPT517 challenge banners:
Measurements and More
I used Real Red for the card base, trimmed to 5-1/2 inches by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches.
The Pool Party mat is 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches. I cropped the square out of the middle of the mat layer using the largest Stitched Shapes square.
I used two pieces of Whisper White, one for the inside and one for the outside. Before trimming the outside piece, I ran it through the Big Shot using the brick and mortar 3D embossing folder. Then I trimmed it to 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches, which is the same size as the inside piece.
A third piece of white cardstock was enough to stamp the bells and the sentiment. I used Versamark to stamp the bells using my Stamp-aratus, then added silver embossing powder and heat set it. The Stamp-aratus also helped trememdously when I stamped the sentiment in Real Red. Then I added clear embossing powder and heat set the sentiment. I trimmed the sentiment block to 2-1/4 inches square.
By the way — do you recognize the sentiment on the front? Yes, it’s from It’s a Wonderful Life and is just one of four movie quotes in the Christmas Means More stamp set.
Elements
The Sounds of the Seasons die set contains a die for the single bell. However, I had to fussy cut the pair of bells, which wasn’t difficult at all and only took a few minutes.
I used the Pool Party sheer ribbon to thread through the holes I made in the bell rings.
Next, I put dimensionals under the sentiment block and the bells. I had to be careful with the placement under the pair of bells so it would overlap the sentiment block. There’s multipurpose liquid adhesive in the corner of the sentiment block to adhere the bells.
After putting everything together on the front, I decided that it needed something, but I had to keep it clean and simple. Therefore, I used the clear Wink of Stella pen to paint random bricks.
There are times that i don’t want a lot of white space on the inside of the card, and this was one of those times. I used the snowflakes, stamped in Pool Party, from Frosted Foliage to form a frame around the Merry Christmas sentiment on the inside. The sentiment is stamped in Real Red to coordinate with the front sentiment.
Next, I stamped some Pool Party snowflakes on the front, bottom, left corner of the envelope. I also stamped snowflakes on the envelope flap.
With that, I’d finished this card/envelope set.
Thank you so much for stopping by today.
I’d love to hear what you think, and greatly appreciate every comment.

My Happiest Season
Just what is my happiest season? I’ve been thinking about this for a couple of weeks and I am still not sure which season makes me the happiest. However, when I saw the August to December mini-catalog, I immediately knew which stamp set, out of all the beautiful stamps sets, made me happiest. You see, I love the Grinch, always have, and have a whole Grinch thing going on for Christmas. I know how long it took Dr. Seuss to write it (45 minutes), that he wrote it poolside on vacation in Africa, and that he’d thought of doing that book for years. He was up against a deadline and needed a book. How the Grinch Stole Christmas became that book.
I do need to say that I had to take a kiddie lit class for my master’s degree. Dr. Seuss was the topic of my major paper for that class. I can give you more information about him than you would ever want to know.
All that to say that the Christmas Means More stamp set makes me very, very happy. Not only does it include a Grinch sentiment, there’s also three other classic Christmas movies in the set: Miracle on 34th Street, Elf, and It’s a Wonderful Life.
What I Decided
#MojoSketch543 really turned out to be the perfect sketch for this card. I chose Grinch colors of Garden Green, Granny Apple Green, and Real Red. My DSP choices all came from either the Regal 6″ x 6″ DSP or the Brights 6″ x 6″ DSP.
The sentiment circle was cropped from the largest circle Stitched Shape die. This circle perfectly fit the Grinch sentiment. Originally, I stamped the sentiment in Real Read and embossed it with clear embossing powder. That did not work at all. Then I decided I would try the Garden Green ink. However, I didn’t want the holly berries to be green. It was actually much easier to get the two colors since I used my Stamparatus. Looking back, I probably did it the hardest way possible. I inked up the sentiment in Garden Green. Then, I very carefully wiped off the green ink from the berries then carefully colored them using the Real Red Stampin’ Write Marker. I repeated that process two more times to get the depth of color I wanted. Then I used the brush end of my Real Red marker to color the border of the circle.
Measurements:
The card base is Real Red. I cut the cardstock to 4-1/4 inches by 11 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches.
The white cardstock background measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches. I ran it through my BigShot using the Subtle embossing folder.
I cut the Granny Apple Green DSP to 2-1/4 inches by 3-1/2 inches.
The Real Red DSP was cut to 3 inches by 4-1/8 inches.
I thought I needed something to border each piece but I didn’t want to add more paper. Therefore, I tapped each edge onto my StazOn Cotton White ink pad.
Next, I wrapped a length of the Polka Dot Tulle ribbon around the Garden Green DSP and tied it in a square knot.
Even though I usually don’t have much luck with the bunny ear method, I used it to tie a small bow using the Playful Pets Real Red ribbon. I used a glue dot to attach the bow to the Polka Dot Tulle square knot.
When I had all my pieces, I simply used the multipurpose liquid adhesive to attach everything except the sentiment. I used dimensionals to pop up the sentiment circle.
Inside and Envelope
Since the Garden Green ink worked so well on the front of the card, I used it on the sentiment on the inside of the card and the “Merry Christmas” stamp on the front, bottom, left-hand corner. Both of these sentiments can be found in the Perfectly Plaid stamp set.
Next, I cut the Whisper White cardstock to 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
The DSP strip at the bottom of the inside measures 1/2 inch by 5-1/4 inches.
Finally, I used the Real Red DSP for the envelope flap, which measures 6 inches by 2-9/16 inches. However, I just measure out one tick line from the 2-1/2 inch mark.
With that, I’d finished this Christmas card/envelope set. I see creating many more of these in the near future!

I’ve always loved Dr. Seuss, always. So much so that I’ve read everything he’s written, including his adult book, and seen his Academy Award films and his work for the Army during WWII. I can even tell you the story of how and why he wrote The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. Call me crazy, but for me, the Grinch is all about hope, love, and family. That’s why my Christmas theme has been the Grinch for the past few years. As soon as I saw the Christmas Means More stamp set in the August – December mini-catalog, I knew I had to have it.
Here’s the first card I created with this new set:
Next is a look at the stamp set. Notice that all of the sentiments are from classic Christmas movies. Can you name all four of them?
Here’s the FMS444 challenge banner that inspired my card:
The card I created would have been very pretty in a simpler, cleaner form, which would be perfect for a beginner stamper. If you are reading this post now and think you couldn’t create a simpler version of this card, let me show you how you CAN do it. CAS (clean and simple) is a very good thing when creating cards and requires only a few basic supplies. Here’s a glance at the cover of the beginner brochure, which can help get to you to help you get started:
I can get you the whole brochure upon request.
Maybe Christmas Perhaps Means a Little Bit More
I knew right from the start that I would be using the quote from Grinch for my card. I had to use trial and error for the rest of the card. However, the result really pleases me a great deal. As a matter of fact, I think my Christmas cards to family up north will be different sentiments but in this same design.
What I Did
This whole card started with the sentiment.
Using my Stamparatus, I stamped the sentiment in Night of Navy on white cardstock three times to get the depth of color I wanted.
After letting the ink dry thoroughly, I wiped the white cardstock with my embossing buddy to get ready for the next steps.
Clean off the sentiment stamp, but don’t take it off the Stamparatus! I used my Absorber cloth to do this. Next, ink and stamp the sentiment using VersaMark. I did this three times to ensure that each and every piece of the sentiment would be adequately covered.
Cover the sentiment with clear embossing powder. Tap the back of the cardstock to remove the excess powder. Using the embossing buddy will help keep stray powder from sticking to the paper.
Heat set the embossing powder using my heat tool.
I cropped the sentiment using the largest square in the Stitched Shapes die set. The sentiment really seemed to be calling for some bling, so I used my clear Wink of Stella to color the holly leaves and berries. Doing this added a pop of silver to the sentiment.
Now for the real trial and error parts of the card: I used Night of Navy for the card base. I started with 4-1/4 inches by 11 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches. This card opens up.
I cut the Balmy Blue mat to 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches and adhered it to the Night of Navy base. Actually, I skipped a step. I am all about saving cardstock. Since the whole center of the Balmy Blue won’t be seen, I cropped it out of the middle using the stitched rectangle dies. It’s our secret and no one will ever know.
Decisions, Decisions
The sentiment square measures 2-5/8 inches on each side. The foil paper mat under it measures 3-1/8 inches on each side. Finally, the Night of Navy mat measures 3-3/8 inches on each side.
The foil print mat is the reverse side of one of the Feels Like Frost DSP pieces. This print brings in the silver to more of the card than just the holly and berries.
After adhering the foil print to the navy mat, I popped dimensionals on the back of the navy. Then, I added dimensionals to the back of the sentiment and layered the pieces. Since there’s two layers of dimensionals, this card might need extra postage.
The time had come to decide what to do about all the white space still left on the card. I really struggled with this decision, and love, love, love that I decided to use the brick and mortar 3D embossing folder.
Next, I trimmed the white background to 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches. I waited until after dry embossing the background because I didn’t want the measurements to be short after using the folder.
More Decisions
Now I had to decide what to do about the strip under the sentiment/mat block. At first, I thought I would use the Balmy Blue glimmer paper. However, I decided it just didn’t work. So, I grabbed the new Snowflake Splendor ribbon and decided that would be perfect. Mind you, while gorgeous, this ribbon is very stiff and making a bow for my bow-challenged self would have been really difficult. Therefore, I just wrapped the ribbon around the card, making sure that it fits just under the sentiment block to match the sketch.
Once I got all these parts together, I decided the brick needed some bling as well. However, I didn’t want to use the snowflake sequins. After staring at the card front for a little while, I decided to use the clear Wink of Stella again. This time I highlighted the highest bricks for the whole card. Wink of Stella is very difficult to see in photos, but here’s a close-up :
Finishing Up
The inside white mat was cut to 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches, but I haven’t glued it down yet. I am not sure what I am going to use for the inside, and didn’t want to make a mistake and have that mat already attached to the card. Once I decide, I will finish the inside.
For now, I did use the foil side of the Feels Like Frost DSP for the envelope flap. I always cut the flap piece to 6 inches by 2-5/8 inches and adhere it using multipurpose liquid glue. After trimming it down, this card/envelope set was complete.
In order to create enough Christmas cards to mail to family and friends, I am going to have to order another pack of Feels Like Frost DSP and some ribbon. I really like non-traditional Christmas colors, but think between the four sentiments in this stamp set, my cards will be easy to mass-produce. Of course, I will be posting more my Christmas cards as I continue to work on them.
An Explanation:
I have a bit of a dilemma when writing posts. You see, there’s a running guide at the bottom of the post in progress which only I can see. It has all kinds of categories used to indicate how easy the blog post is to read. My OCD struggles with this quite a bit when trying to list and explain the steps to create a card. The subheading category goes from green, to yellow, and then to red when I am writing out directions. Yeah, I can’t deal with red as it really bothers my sense of order. So, that explains why there are subheadings in the middle of the directions. I’ve tried letting a post go live with a red category and I just couldn’t do it. I know it’s an idiosyncrasy, but I just have to go with it.
As always, thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. I’d also love to hear what you think, and greatly appreciate every comment.
