Fusion Hello Hat Challenge meets Rings of Love DSP

Welcome to my blog!  This time, I followed the sketch and inspiration photo from the Fusion Hello Hat challenge.  I used the Rings of Love DSP (designer series paper), which can be earned for FREE with a qualifying order during Sale-a-Bration.  This DSP coordinates with the Rings of Love bundle found in the current July – December mini catalog.

Here’s my card:

Here’s the challenge banner from Fusion:

Measurements:

  • The Poppy Parade base measures 11 by 4-1/4 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches to create a tent fold card.
  • After I ran a piece of white cardstock through the Brick and Mortar 3D embossing folder, I trimmed it to 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches. I trimmed another piece of white cardstock to 4 by 5-1/4 inches for the inside of the card.
  • Next, I trimmed two pieces of the Rings of Love DSP to 2-1/4 by 4-1/4 inches. These two patterns are the front and back of one 12 x 12 inch DSP.
  • I also trimmed a piece of the DSP to 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap and 4 by 7/8 inches for the inside of the card.
  • I used scraps of Poppy Parade and white cardstock for the sentiment labels, which I cropped using the Stylish Shapes dies. If you loved the Stitched Shapes dies, you really need to add the Stylish Shapes dies to your wish list!
  • Finally, I punched a 1 inch circle from the DSP to use for the envelope seal. Then, I ran it through my XYRON create-a-sticker to finish the seal off.

What I Did:

  • Once I trimmed the DSP pieces for the front of the card, I needed to do something to make sure they would pop off the white cardstock. Therefore, I used my Poppy Parade marker to outline both pieces of DSP. By doing this, I didn’t have to use a mat under each piece.
  • Both the sentiment on the outside and inside come from the Happy & Heartfelt stamp set. I used Night of Navy ink for both of them.
  • After cropping the two chevron banners, I added dimensionals under each of them.
  • I used multipurpose liquid glue to attach all the other elements of the card.
  • With that, I finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.

My Bug Obsession Continues with PP592

I think it’s completely obvious that I am completely obsessed with the ladybug builder punch!  My original plan for a card for the Paper Players Challenge #592 didn’t look anything like the final product.

Here’s my card:

Here’s the challenge banner:

You can see my other ladybug cards here, here, here, and here.  I told you I am obsessed!

Short and Sweet:

  • The Evening Evergreen base measures 8-1/2 by 5-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches to create a tent fold.
  • AFTER I ran the Soft Succulent cardstock through my cut and emboss machine using the brick 3D embossing folder, I trimmed it to 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches.
  • I wanted the brick texture to stand out so I used a blending brush and Evening Evergreen ink. After tapping the brush in the ink, I tapped it off on a piece of scrap paper because I wanted a dry-brush look. In order to highlight just the raised texture, I brushed on the diagonal. It took a few layers of ink, but it was much better to have a light hand to achieve the look I wanted.
  • I wrapped a length of Evening Evergreen ribbon around the cardstock and tied it in a square knot.
  • Next, I used a scrap of the Flowering Fields DSP (designer series paper) and cropped two circles using the new Stylish Shapes die set. If you loved the now retired Stitched Shapes die set, you will LOVE this set. Put it high on your wish list!
  • Then I started on my bee. I punched a black body and two vellum cardstock wings using the ladybug punch. I cut one set of wings in half and turned them over to create the top set of wings on this bee.
  • Every bee has to have a stinger and I cut a tiny corner piece of DSP to make this one.
  • I trimmed the strips of DSP to 1/8 inch wide for the stripes on the bee.
  • Finally, I added three black matte dots to the wings to cover my adhesive.

Finishing Up:

  • I stamped the sentiment using Early Evergreen ink and trimmed it down to size. Then, I added a very thin mat of Early Evergreen cardstock for a mat.
  • I used dimensionals under the sentiment and the bee. My favorite adhesive, multipurpose liquid glue, took care of the rest of the pieces.
  • I trimmed a piece of Early Evergreen DSP to 2-1/ by 6 inches for the envelope flap. Then, I punched a 1 inch circle from the Flowering Fields DSP for the envelope seal and ran it through my XYRON create-a-sticker.
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.

Cherry Blossoms for Cardz 4 Galz #157

Welcome back to the biweekly Cardz 4 Galz challenge!  Dawn chose the theme for challenge # 157, and I chose to use my brand new Forever Blossoms bundle!  I hope you will visit the challenge blog and see the rest of the cards created by our design team members!

Here’s my card:

These cherry blossoms remind me of Washington, D.C. They are gorgeous in person.

Measurements:

  • The Old Olive card base measures 4-1/4 inches by 11 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches.
  • I used a Petal Pink mat, and it measures 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches.
  • I ran the white cardstock through the cut and emboss machine in the brick and mortar 3D embossing folder first. Then I trimmed it down to 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
  • I used a piece of white cardstock for the cherry blossoms and the sentiment.
  • The white cardstock for the inside panel measures my usual 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
  • The last measurement is for the envelope flap. I used a piece of Petal Pink DSP and it measures 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches.

What I Did:

  • After stamping the cherry blossom stamp in Soft Suede, I had to really let it dry thoroughly before coloring with Stampin’ Blends. At this point, I also stamped a portion of the blossoms on the bottom, left-hand corner of the inside panel and allowed it to dry completely.
  • While that was drying, I stamped the front sentiment from the Forever Blossoms stamp set in Old Olive on white cardstock.
  • I cropped this sentiment using the Seasonal Labels die set. Since I wanted the sentiment to stand out from the white brick and mortar background, I outlined it using the Soft Suede marker. Then, I put dimensionals under this sentiment.
  • I used Stampin’ Blends to color the blossoms and leaves. The light Soft Suede blend was used for the stem portions. I used the light and dark Petal Pink blends. Finally, I colored the leaves using the light and dark Old Olive blends. This color combination seems perfect for the cherry blossoms. After cropping the blossoms using the coordinating dies, I popped it up on dimensionals.
  • One of the reasons I chose Petal Pink was to use this gorgeous ribbon. I wrapped a length of it around the white cardstock and tied it in a bow. Since the blossoms would be on the left side of the card, I put the bow on the right side to balance the card.
  • I tucked the sentiment under the ribbon on the left. Then I decided the card needed a bit of something else. Therefore, I used three pearl basic jewels placed in a triangle pattern around the blossoms.

Inside and Finishing Up:

  • The always and Forever sentiment for the inside also comes from the Forever Blossoms stamp set. This whole set is just phenomenal! I had to give it a second and third look before I broke down and bought it, but I am very glad I did!
  • Here’s the inside:
  • I stamped then colored the same partial blossom/leaf combination on the bottom, left-hand side of the front of the envelope.
  • Finally, I trimmed the DSP on the envelope flap. I’d cropped and colored some single blossoms thinking I would use them. Since I didn’t use them for the front of the card, one of them makes a great envelope seal.
  • With that, this coordinated card/envelope/seal set was complete..

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this card.

Please stay safe and healthy.

Have a Peachy day!

Freshly Made Sketches #444 and the Grinch

I’ve always loved Dr. Seuss, always. So much so that I’ve read everything he’s written, including his adult book, and seen his Academy Award films and his work for the Army during WWII. I can even tell you the story of how and why he wrote The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. Call me crazy, but for me, the Grinch is all about hope, love, and family. That’s why my Christmas theme has been the Grinch for the past few years. As soon as I saw the Christmas Means More stamp set in the August – December mini-catalog, I knew I had to have it.

Here’s the first card I created with this new set:

Next is a look at the stamp set. Notice that all of the sentiments are from classic Christmas movies. Can you name all four of them?

Here’s the FMS444 challenge banner that inspired my card:

The card I created would have been very pretty in a simpler, cleaner form, which would be perfect for a beginner stamper. If you are reading this post now and think you couldn’t create a simpler version of this card, let me show you how you CAN do it. CAS (clean and simple) is a very good thing when creating cards and requires only a few basic supplies. Here’s a glance at the cover of the beginner brochure, which can help get to you to help you get started:

Maybe Christmas Perhaps Means a Little Bit More

I knew right from the start that I would be using the quote from Grinch for my card. I had to use trial and error for the rest of the card. However, the result really pleases me a great deal. As a matter of fact, I think my Christmas cards to family up north will be different sentiments but in this same design.

What I Did

This whole card started with the sentiment.

  1. Using my Stamparatus, I stamped the sentiment in Night of Navy on white cardstock three times to get the depth of color I wanted.
  2. After letting the ink dry thoroughly, I wiped the white cardstock with my embossing buddy to get ready for the next steps.
  3. Clean off the sentiment stamp, but don’t take it off the Stamparatus! I used my Absorber cloth to do this. Next, ink and stamp the sentiment using VersaMark. I did this three times to ensure that each and every piece of the sentiment would be adequately covered.
  4. Cover the sentiment with clear embossing powder. Tap the back of the cardstock to remove the excess powder. Using the embossing buddy will help keep stray powder from sticking to the paper.
  5. Heat set the embossing powder using my heat tool.
  6. I cropped the sentiment using the largest square in the Stitched Shapes die set. The sentiment really seemed to be calling for some bling, so I used my clear Wink of Stella to color the holly leaves and berries. Doing this added a pop of silver to the sentiment.
  7. Now for the real trial and error parts of the card: I used Night of Navy for the card base. I started with 4-1/4 inches by 11 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches. This card opens up.
  8. I cut the Balmy Blue mat to 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches and adhered it to the Night of Navy base. Actually, I skipped a step. I am all about saving cardstock. Since the whole center of the Balmy Blue won’t be seen, I cropped it out of the middle using the stitched rectangle dies. It’s our secret and no one will ever know.

Decisions, Decisions

  1. The sentiment square measures 2-5/8 inches on each side. The foil paper mat under it measures 3-1/8 inches on each side. Finally, the Night of Navy mat measures 3-3/8 inches on each side.
  2. The foil print mat is the reverse side of one of the Feels Like Frost DSP pieces. This print brings in the silver to more of the card than just the holly and berries.
  3. After adhering the foil print to the navy mat, I popped dimensionals on the back of the navy. Then, I added dimensionals to the back of the sentiment and layered the pieces. Since there’s two layers of dimensionals, this card might need extra postage.
  4. The time had come to decide what to do about all the white space still left on the card. I really struggled with this decision, and love, love, love that I decided to use the brick and mortar 3D embossing folder.
  5. Next, I trimmed the white background to 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches. I waited until after dry embossing the background because I didn’t want the measurements to be short after using the folder.

More Decisions

  1. Now I had to decide what to do about the strip under the sentiment/mat block. At first, I thought I would use the Balmy Blue glimmer paper. However, I decided it just didn’t work. So, I grabbed the new Snowflake Splendor ribbon and decided that would be perfect. Mind you, while gorgeous, this ribbon is very stiff and making a bow for my bow-challenged self would have been really difficult. Therefore, I just wrapped the ribbon around the card, making sure that it fits just under the sentiment block to match the sketch.
  2. Once I got all these parts together, I decided the brick needed some bling as well. However, I didn’t want to use the snowflake sequins. After staring at the card front for a little while, I decided to use the clear Wink of Stella again. This time I highlighted the highest bricks for the whole card. Wink of Stella is very difficult to see in photos, but here’s a close-up :

Finishing Up

The inside white mat was cut to 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches, but I haven’t glued it down yet. I am not sure what I am going to use for the inside, and didn’t want to make a mistake and have that mat already attached to the card. Once I decide, I will finish the inside.

For now, I did use the foil side of the Feels Like Frost DSP for the envelope flap. I always cut the flap piece to 6 inches by 2-5/8 inches and adhere it using multipurpose liquid glue. After trimming it down, this card/envelope set was complete.

In order to create enough Christmas cards to mail to family and friends, I am going to have to order another pack of Feels Like Frost DSP and some ribbon. I really like non-traditional Christmas colors, but think between the four sentiments in this stamp set, my cards will be easy to mass-produce. Of course, I will be posting more my Christmas cards as I continue to work on them.

An Explanation:

I have a bit of a dilemma when writing posts. You see, there’s a running guide at the bottom of the post in progress which only I can see. It has all kinds of categories used to indicate how easy the blog post is to read. My OCD struggles with this quite a bit when trying to list and explain the steps to create a card. The subheading category goes from green, to yellow, and then to red when I am writing out directions. Yeah, I can’t deal with red as it really bothers my sense of order. So, that explains why there are subheadings in the middle of the directions. I’ve tried letting a post go live with a red category and I just couldn’t do it. I know it’s an idiosyncrasy, but I just have to go with it.

As always, thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. I’d also love to hear what you think, and greatly appreciate every comment.

Have a Peachy Day!

Gnomes have arrived with the Christmas InKing Royalty Blog Hop

Welcome to InKing Royalty’s December Blog Hop! This year’s Blog Hop themes are inspired by a single word – and this month our projects are centered around CHRISTMAS. It’s a wonderful time of year, and we are having lots of fun with our Christmas-themed projects. We are so excited to share them with you today! After you read my post, I hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.

I’ve Been Bitten by the Gnome Bug!

You may remember that last month I created two cards using the same materials. The first would be great for a beginner stamper, and the second for a more advance stamper. (You can find that post here.) I decided to do the same thing this month.

Here are my cards:

Beginner or casual stamper
Outside of the more advanced card, using many of the same materials.
Inside of card. I used Chic n Scratch’s video and made my own modifications.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PeNmdWb5eE

I used the Wrapped in Plaid DSP for both cards. The sentiments on the outside and inside for both cards are from the Greatest Part of Christmas host set from the holiday catalog.

Gnomes are Everywhere!

I’ve seen so many adorable gnome cards on Pinterest this holiday season. Stampin’ Up doesn’t have a gnome stamp set this year (wouldn’t “there’s no place like gnome for the holidays” be great?). However, I started seeing gnomes created with SU! products, which caused me to search much more. Sadly, I don’t remember where I got some of these ideas after clicking, then clicking again, and again, and….. well, you know how it goes. Somewhere along the line I saw someone use the wide leaf die from the Tropical dies for the face. Score! On another gnome card, I saw where the creator drew in a sideways smile. Score again! I wish I could credit these talented demos, but I wouldn’t even know how to retrace my searches.

The gnome’s hat is the Christmas tree punch. Easy enough. However, I really struggled with the body, or just arms, of the gnome. I tried different punches and dies to no avail and I don’t have the perennial flower punch used by so many. Then I stumbled across Rick Adkins Wrapped in Plaid gnome, which he created without any dies. Let me just say, the man is an artist!! Flat out artist! Check out this video to see an example of his watercoloring. Anyway, Rick used an oval for the body, so I adjusted my gnomes accordingly using the largest oval from the Stitched Shapes die set.

As always,
