Autumn Birthdays for C4G # 281

Welcome to another Cardz 4 Guyz challenge! It’s my turn to host challenge #281. The temperatures here in Central Florida are still scorching, so the theme I chose reflects my weather wishes:  autumn colors for a birthday card.  I hope you will pop over to the C4G blog to see what the rest of the design team created as well!

Here’s my autumn birthday card for a guy:

For this card, I really let the DSP (designer series paper) do the vast majority of the work.  All I added was a sentiment panel and some linen thread.

Measurements:

• I used Merry Merlot for the base and trimmed it to 4-1/4 inches by 11 inches and scored it at 5-1/2 inches to form a tent card.
• There’s a woodgrain piece of DSP from Beauty of the Earth used as a mat for the front of the card and also for a mat for the sentiment panel. One piece measures 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches. The sentiment panel mat measures 4-1/8 inches by 1-3/4 inches. I used the same DSP for the envelope flap, so I trimmed a piece to 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches.
• The very colorful DSP for the front of the card measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches. Since the paper is directional, make sure you have it going the right way before trimming it.
• I used a scrap of white cardstock for the actual sentiment. It measures 3-7/8 inches by 1-3/5 inches (or, for me, 1 tick mark past 1-1/2 inches).
• The white cardstock for the inside panel measures my usual at 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.

What I Did:

• First, I stamped the happy birthday sentiment from the Biggest Wish stamp set using Pumpkin Pie and Early Espresso inks. Since this stamp set is photopolymer, it is pretty easy to line up the words right where you want them.
• Next, I use the trio of tiny leaves stamp from Gorgeous Leaves to accent the sentiment panel. I found it much easier to color in the leaves using my Merry Merlot, Bumblebee, and Cinnamon Cider markers. Then I simply stamped the trio three times on the panel. The third time I stamped I did stamp off the panel so the leaves wouldn’t overlap the words.
• I placed dimensionals under the sentiment panel and adhered it to the woodgrain DSP mat. Then, I adhered the mat to the colorful autumn leaves DSP using liquid glue.
• Thankfully, before I adhered the assembled front to the base of the card, I thought to add the linen thread. I wrapped the thread around three times and tied a bow.
• After making sure I only had a single layer of thread on the back of the card, I adhered it to the base using liquid glue. Once adhered, that thread will not move.
• Next, I worked on the inside panel of the card, pictured below:

• First, I used the woodgrain stamp from Gorgeous Leaves and stamped off Pumpkin Pie ink before stamping on the white cardstock.
• Then, I used Early Espresso and stamped the sentiment from the In Your Words host stamp set from the September Sale-a-Bration catalog.
• Finally, I stamped three sets of the trio of leaves on the panel.

Finishing Up:

• After trimming the DSP on the envelope flap, I punched a circle of the colorful leaves DSP to create an envelope seal. Of course, you know I ran the circle through my XYRON create-a-sticker machine.
• HINT: After running the envelope seal through the XYRON create-a-sticker, I rub and peel the adhesive off the top. I use that piece of adhesive tape to pick up the pesky dimensional covers and small scraps of paper off my tile floor. What’s the strangest place you’ve found dimensional covers? A couple of weeks ago, I found one on my lab mix dog. He keeps me company in my studio and must have rolled onto one and it stuck.
• With that, I’d finished this coordinated birthday card, envelope, and envelope seal set.
