Simple Slimline Card for C4G # 291

Welcome to the Cardz 4 Guyz challenge # 291.  I am hosting this challenge theme, and I chose slimline cards.  When you finish here, I hope you will visit the challenge blog to see what all the other design team members created.  Each one is fabulous!

Here’s my slimline card:

Measurements and Such:

  • The Misty Moonlight base measures 8-1/2 inches by 7 inches, scored at 3-1/2 inches to form a tent card.
  • I used a piece of the Beauty of the Earth DSP (designer series paper) and trimmed it to 8-1/4 inches by 3-1/4 inches.
  • The white panel for the inside of the card measures 3-1/3 inches by 8-1/4 inches.
  • For the sentiment, I used the Biggest Wish stamp set. First, I stamped “HAPPY” in Cinnamon Cider. Then, I stamped “birthday” using Misty Moonlight.
  • The sentiment rectangle, and the two mats behind it, were all cropped using the rectangle stitched dies.
  • I used the TomBow multipurpose glue, which is my favorite adhesive, for all the paper elements, with the exception of the Cinnamon Cider mat for the sentiment. The Misty Moonlight cardstock is adhered directly to the DSP.
  • Then, I tied a square knot on a piece of the Misty Moonlight ribbon that I’d wrapped around the DSP. This ribbon goes over the Misty Moonlight sentiment mat.
  • Finally, I popped the sentiment block up on dimensionals and placed it over the ribbon.
  • At this point, I thought I had finished. However, when I came back to the card later, I decided that I needed to add something else. So, I used three of the 2020 – 2022 In Color enamel Cinnamon Cider dots on the top, left-hand corner of the DSP.
  • Ta-da! My simple slimline was complete!

Cardz 4 Guyz #280 is All About Leaves

Hello and welcome back for another Cardz 4 Guyz challenge!  This time Melanie has chosen leaves for the theme, which leaves (pun intended) the options wide open!  When you are finished readying my blog, I hope you will hop over to the challenge and see all the wonderfully inspired cards from the rest of the design team members!

Here’s my bay window fun fold card:

Measurements:

If you want to get everything cut before you head over to her blog, the measurements are as follows:

  • I used a Mossy Meadow card base measuring 4-1/4 inches by 11 inches. It gets scored at 1/2 inch 2 inches, 3-3/4 inches, 5-1/4 inches, and 5-1.2 inches.
  • In keeping with the leaves theme, I chose to use the Beauty of the Earth DSP 9designer series paper). I needed 3 panels, 2 of which measure 1-3/8 inches by 4-1/8 inches. The middle panel measures 1-5/8 inches by 4-1/8 inches.
  • While I had the DSP out, I trimmed a piece to 2-1/2 inches by 6 inches for the envelope flap.
  • HINT: I followed along with Frenchie’s video when trimming down the panels. Next time, I will cut the first 1-3/8 inches by 4-1/8 inches, then the middle panel, then the other 1-3/8 inches by 4-1/8 inch panel. It is difficult to tell on my card, but the DSP patterns don’t line up across the fold lines. Not a big deal for this card, but there are other DSP patterns for which it will definitely matter.
  • I used the Bumblebee piece of 6 x 6 inch DSP for the end panel of the card. It measures 1-1/2 inches by 4 inches. I wanted to use a Night of Navy mat under this panel, and it measures 1-5/8 inches by 4-1/8 inches.
  • In order to tie the Night of Navy mat in with the small fold on the center of the card, I trimmed another piece to 4-1/8 inches by 1-4 inches.

Stamping:

  • The white cardstock on the inside of the card measures 3-1/2 inches by 4-1/8 inches. Since the Forever Fern stamp set contains leaves similar to those on the DSP, I stamped two of the stamps on the bottom left-hand corner. I used Mossy Meadow ink and also Bumblebee ink over which I randomly colored/highlighted leaves with my Cajun Craze Stamping Write Marker. I did the same thing on the front left-hand bottom corner of the envelope.
  • Next, I used the “GRATEFUL” sentiment from the Sparkle of the Season stamp set stamped in Night of Navy on white cardstock. The two sets of leaves poking out also come from the Forever Fern stamp set and Forever Flourishing coordinating dies. I pulled in the Night of Navy and Misty Moonlight colors from the DSP for those leaves. The sentiment and leaves are popped up on dimensionals.
  • Finally, I used a piece of Bumblebee 6 x 6 DSP for the mat. I am still using up my 6 x 6 DSP color family packs, which explains the patterns for the Bumblebee DSP.

Once you have everything cut and stamped, please go to Frenchie’s video link to put it together. The one thing that I found was an AH-HA moment was putting dimensionals under the Bumblebee/Night of Navy mat panel. That’s how the card stays open to a bay window.

I hope you enjoy her video as much as I did.

(E)scape is the Theme for MMM #160

Welcome back to another Make My Monday challenge!  Caz chose the theme of (es)cape for #160.  I hope you will hop over the the challenge blog and check out the wide variety of cards from the other design team members!  What kind of (e)scape will you create!  Post your project to the blog at Make My Monday for all to see.

My card is a double (es)cape card.  I created a land(scape) Christmas shaker card because I would love to e(scape) to see a white Christmas this year.

Here’s my card:

Measurements:

  • The Night of Navy card base measures 8-1/2 inches by 5-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches to create a tent fold card.
  • The DSP (designer series paper) for the front of the card comes from the Beauty of the Earth DSP pack. This piece measures 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches.
  • I used another DSP pattern from Beauty of the Earth for the envelope flap. This piece measures 2-1/2 inches by 6 inches.
  • The white cardstock for the front of the shaker card measures 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches.
  • The white cardstock for the inside panel of the card measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
  • I stamped the sentiment for the outside on scrap white cardstock. Then, I cropped it using a stitched rectangle die.

How I Made the Card:

I made a video while creating the second version of this card. I thought that would be easier than trying to explain the process of making the shaker part of the card.

Please “like” the video if you do. If you subscribe to my channel, which is brand new, you will be notified of future videos. My goal is to create one a week for starters. Thank you!

Harvests, Hope, & Thanksgiving for the October InKing Royalty Blog Hop

Welcome to InKing Royalty’s October Blog Hop! During this year’s blog hops, we are having fun with our stamping favorites – our favorite themes for seasonal cards and projects. This month’s projects center around Harvest & Hope, so prepare yourself for gratitude and love in Fall-themed projects. We are excited to share our creations with you today! After you read my post, I hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.

Here’s my harvest card:

My daughter moved to northern California a year ago July. Because of that pandemic that shall not be named (Harry Potter reference), I haven’t been able to go out there to see her. I finally went out last weekend for a long weekend. Living in northern California means wine country, and she’s right in the middle of it. It’s harvest season for the grapes, and the fields were in various stages of green turning to yellow, and it was so pretty! When I came home, I made this card keeping those sweeping views in mind.

The layout inspiration came from a card challenge I saw online. However, we all know what it’s like to get into a clicking pattern that goes on and on and on and on. Then, I closed the browser and have no idea where I saw the challenge. I do know that the challenge is no longer operating, but that really doesn’t help me now.

Measurements:

  • The Old Olive base measures 5-1/2 inches by 8-1/2 inches and scored at 4-1/4 inches to create a tent fold card.
  • I used coordinating DSP (designer Series Paper) from the Beauty of the Earth DSP pack. The wood background piece measures 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches.
  • I’m so pleased that there is a border print pattern in this pack! The border print DSP measures 5-3/8 inches by 1-1/2 inches. I had a scrap length of Bumblebee, so I trimmed it in half and cut it down to 5-3/8 inches. Then I trimmed it horizontally to fit on the top and bottom of the border print.
  • I used the layering circles die set to cut out the trees DSP and the scalloped Bumblebee circle bordering it.
  • The DSP for the banner at the top measures 1-3/4 inches wide. This measurement allowed me to use the triple banner punch to get the Bumblebee mat.
  • I used a coordinating DSP from Beauty of the Earth for the envelope flap. It measures 2-1/2 inches by 6 inches.
  • I used the one inch circle punch to punch out a piece of the border print. After I ran it through my XYRON create-a-sticker, I ad my envelope seal.
  • The white cardstock on the inside measures my usual of 5-1/4 inches by 4 inches.

What I Did:

  • I described a fair amount of the putting together process above, so I’ll just move on.
  • The sentiment stamp comes from the Sparkle of the Season stamp set, which is in the mini-catalog. I stamped it in Early Espresso on the right front of the border DSP.
  • Next, I wrapped linen thread around the border print DSP three times then tied a bow. I adhered this to the wood pattern DSP using the multipurpose liquid glue. The linen thread actually reminded me of the wire fencing to which the grapevines are attached in straight rows. It also helps to direct your eyes toward the sentiment going from left to right.
  • I used the Tombow multipurpose liquid glue, my favorite, to adhere the wood DSP pattern to the card base. I also used it to attach the border print DSP, the circle to the scalloped circle mat, and the banner to the banner mat.
  • Dimensionals pop up the circle focal element and the banner at the top of the page. I was careful to place the dimensionals on the circle so they would straddle the linen thread.

The Inside:

  • I trimmed the DSP to 1/2 inch by 5-3/8 inches for the bottom border of the inside white cardstock panel.
  • Next, I stamped the sentiment in Early Espresso. This stamp also comes from the Sparkle of the Season stamp set.
  • In that same stamp set is the twig and leaves stamp, and I used markers to color parts of the stamp. First, I used the Early Espresso marker to color over the wood twig parts and then stamped just the twigs. Next, I grabbed my Old Olive and Bumblebee markers for the leaves. I covered all the leaves in Bumblee. Then, I went back and just hit random spots with the Old Olive before stamping it on the twigs.
  • I was so stinking pleased with the result that I did the same thing on the bottom, left-hand corner of the front of the card.

With that, I finished this coordinated card/envelope./seal set.

Happy Fall, Y’all for Make My Monday #157

Welcome to the Make My Monday challenge #157. Pamela chose an autumn/fall theme for the challenge starting today, September 13, 2021. I’ve seen the design team projects and they are phenomenal! I hope you will pop over to the challenge blog to see what the rest of the design team created. We all look forward to seeing what you create posted in our gallery!

Here’s my card:

When I first chose this DSP (designer series paper), I thought that I might just let the DSP do all the work.  I pulled out some Misty Moonlight, Merry Merlot, and Cinnamon Cider cardstock just to play around with the colors and DSP.  I knew I needed a “Thinking of You” card, and when I started looking for sentiments that would match what I wanted to do, I came across the  Nature’s Harvest stamp set.  While I knew I wouldn’t be using any of those sentiments, I thought I could use the dies.  With that, finding a layout that worked just fell into place.

Measurements:

  • I chose Cinnamon Cider for the base. It measures 5-1/2 inches by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches.
  • The Misty Moonlight base measures 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches. You can’t see it, but I cropped the wheat kind of die diagonally from this mat.
  • The DSP top layer measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches. I also cut a piece of DSP to 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.
  • The white cardstock for the inside panel measures 5-1/4 inches by 4 inches.
  • The Cinnamon Cider and Merry Merlot stalks were cropped from scraps. I also cropped the sentiment panel and Misty Moonlight mat from scraps.

What I Did:

  • First, I adhered the DSP to the Misty Moonlight mat.
  • Then, I started working on the bow using Early Espresso faux suede trim. I don’t put any adhesive down to hold ribbon in place when I am trying to create a bow. Since I am bow-challenged about 50% of the time. Maybe it’s because I am left-handed, but my bows wind up coming out upside down, so I need to be able to take the ribbon off and turn it around. I know I should just tie it starting from the upside down position, but that doesn’t seem to work for me. This time, I tied a pretty decent bow on the third try. Yeah, me!
  • I used liquid adhesive to adhere all three stalks on the DSP, slipping them under the ribbon one at a time.
  • Next, I stamped the sentiment, from the Peaceful Moments stamp set, on a scrap of white cardstock in Merry Merlot. Then, I cropped the sentiment using a stitched rectangle die.
  • The Misty Moonlight sentiment mat was trimmed to size. I used dimensionals under the sentiment, but adhered the mat directly to the DSP. I also put dimensionals under the Misty Moonlight mat under the DSP to accomodate the width of the faux suede ribbon.

The Inside:

Here’s the inside of the card:

  • This sentiment comes from the In Your Words host set. It’s a beautiful sentiment, isn’t it? I stamped it in Merry Merlot.
  • Those five little, tiny white stars come from the Frightfully Cute die set. I had no idea what that die was supposed to match, so I tested it on a scrap of white cardstock. Adhering them was a bit tricky. First, I put a drop of glue on a dimensional cover, only because it was sitting on my desk Using my opposable tweezers, I was able to just touch the star into the glue and then adhere it to the inside of the card. Those stars are really, really tiny, but they fit so well with this sentiment.
  • Finally, it was time to finish up. I adhered and trimmed the DSP on the envelope flap. Then, I punched a 1 inch circle from coordinating DSP and ran it through my XYRON create-a-sticker for an envelope seal.
  • With that, this coordinated card/envelope/seal set was done.

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this card.

Have a Peachy day!

Sue
