International Jazz Day for MMM # 224

Welcome to the newest Make My Monday bi-weekly challenge #224. Our host for this challenge, Caz, chose International Jazz Day as the theme. Never fear, anything with music, a dancer, a singer, etc meets the challenge theme. When you finish here, please visit the challenge site to see what the rest of the very talented design team members created. Then, don’t forget to upload your creations to our gallery. We look forward to seeing your creations there!

Here’s my card:

I used the Zany Zoo bundle, and the balloons from Beautiful Balloons. The background of the card is hand-stamped using two stamps from Zany Zoo and black and Lemon Lime Twist ink. By the time I got it all put together, the background barely shows. I took my color cues from the Zany Zoo turtle. Often a card will evolve as I am working, and this one definitely was an evolution.

Measurements:

  • The Lemon Lime Twist card base measures 5-1/2 by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches.
  • The black mat measures 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches. I cropped the black front piece from the inside of the black mat using a deckled rectangle die. No one will know, and it takes just a bit of bulk from the card.
  • The hand-stamped background measures 4 by 5-1/4 inches.
  • Next, I trimmed a piece of the 6 x 6 inch Brights DSP to 5-1/4 by 2 inches. I also trimmed a piece of this DSP to 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap. After punching a 1-inch circle using the same DSP, I turned it over and ran it through my XYRON create-a-sticker so it would coordinate with the flap.
  • I had the white dot embossed cardstock, and cropped it using the next smallest deckled rectangle.
  • The white cardstock for the inside measures 4 by 5-1/4 inches.

Stamping, Cropping, & Assembly:

  • The singing turtle was easy – the Zany Zoo dies will crop out different characters from the DSP, and I used the die for this turtle. I added dimensionals to the back of the turtle and the cropped stool on which he’s standing.
  • HINT: The mini-dimensionals need to be cut down into 3 pieces for the feet of the stool. The easiest way to do this is horizontally so that you don’t have to deal with the pointed corner sticking out.
  • The die set also has this fabulous curtain die set, which I cropped from Lemon Lime Twist cardstock.
  • After stamping the sentiment, I cropped it using one of the banners from the Stylish Shapes die set. Next, I added dimensionals to the back of the sentiment.
  • I adhered everything else using multipurpose liquid glue.
  • Adhere the black cardstock to the base, and then the hand-stamped background to the black cardstock.
  • After wrapping a piece of black and white gingham ribbon around the Lemon Lime Twist DSP, adhere it to the front of the card.
  • Layer the deckled rectangle die cut, the white deckled rectangle die cut, and the curtains using your multipurpose liquid glue.
  • Finally, add your sentiment, stool, and turtle to the front panel.
  • The inside sentiment comes from the Zany Zoo stamp set, and I stamped it in black ink.
  • Then, I thought the sentiment looked lonely, so I added three balloons from the Beautiful Balloons stamp set, and added the black strings. I think this is my favorite part of the card.
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.
