“Let the Good Times Roll” for April’s InKing Royalty blog hop

Welcome to InKing Royalty’s April Blog Hop! This year’s hops are themed around some of our favorite songs. Today’s hop is pulls inspiration from B.B. King’s song “Let the Good Times Roll.” How fun is that?! We’ve created projects that either feature images with wheels (cards, wagons, bikes) or celebrate good times. We are excited to share our projects with you. After you read my post, I hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.

Let the Good Times Roll

“Let the Good Times Roll” means something different to almost everyone.  What I thought of almost immediately was the Wood Crate Framelits as a wagon, and I knew I wanted to fill it with flowers (although I’ve seen cards on Pinterest with a wagon of Bella puppies ~ adorable!).  Enter the Beautiful Bouquet bundle.  I chose the colors based on a color challenge, using So Saffron, Pool Party, and Old Olive.  The base is Old Olive, as are the cropped leaf pieces. 

 Wood Crate Framelits 

I tried a couple of different backgrounds, and finally decided on the Basketweave TIEF.  If you haven’t already purchased this folder, you need to treat yourself and do it.  I also used the Woodplank embossing folder for the wagon, which was cropped in Crumb Cake.  After I embossed it, I lightly daubed Crumb Cake ink over the embossed parts to enhance the wood look of my wagon.  

The wheels were stamped using the circle in the Wood Words stamp set.  I punched the wheels out with a circle punch, which I also did for the white centers hoping to make the wheels look like actual tires.  The distressed stamp makes the wheel look more realistic, at least I think so.  After adding a strip of the embossed and daubed Crumb Cake for the handle and a piece of another wheel for the handle, the wagon portion was done.

Beautiful Bouquet

Both flower stamps and the framelits are from this gorgeous bundle.  However, no matter how much I played around with the six flowers, I couldn’t get the overflowing appearance I wanted.  Back to the framelits for inspiration, in which I found in the mini-flower framelit.  I decided I really wanted these to look like black-eyed Susans, which I’ve always loved.  I needed to crop three of these sets of flowers in So Saffron, daubed them with So Saffron, then added the black rhinestones from the 2017 Holiday Catalog.  When I finish the rest of my set of these lovely little jewels I am going to have to figure out something else to use.

Flower arranging

I took my time to play around with the arrangement of the flowers.  Many mini and regular dimensionals were added on the backs in order to really be able to play around with a dry fit.  Glue dots seemed to be the easiest way to adhere the black-eyed Susans to the wagon.  After I stuck down the dimensionals I knew something else was needed, so I cropped a bunch of stems and leaves and played around again.  Glue dots were also usedto adhere the stems behind the flowers.  I really wish I would make these decisions before I adhere everything down.  However, sometimes I just don’t know what I might need to add.

Final Element is the Sentiment

The birthday greeting was chosen because it fit.  My focus was the wagon full of flowers, so this banner was was cropped to fit.  Then, I used the Old Olive Stamping Write marker to outline the banner.  Card completed – check!

A Whole Lot of Lovely for the FUSION Easter Bunny challenge

FUSION Easter Bunny Challenge

FUSION is a fun challenge because there are choices: use the sketch, use the photo, or combine the two.  Both the sketch and the Easter bunny wreath inspired me for this challenge.  After I figured out the easiest way to do this sketch challenge, I made four cards out of the different Whole Lot of Lovely DSP papers.

Here’s my favorite out of the four cards:

I like this card because of the bold Tranquil Tide embossed base and the coordinating DSP.  The patterns in the Whole Lot of Lovely DSP stack are either soft (Pool Party, Powder Pink, etc.) or bold (Basic Black, Tangerine Tango, Tranquil Tide, Crushed Curry, etc).  All of the patterns are a lot of fun to use.

Finally tried folding the DSP back diagonally

I’ve seen many, many cards on Pinterest that had the DSP folded back on the front of the card, but I’d never tried it before (at least I can’t remember if I have).  I resorted to this when my geometry skills failed me while trying to make nesting triangles, and the fold were MUCH easier.  

In the group of three cards, there’s one using the same DSP as my favorite, but the difference is the base color.  I used the new basketweave TIEF on Pool Party, and flipped the piece of DSP over.  It’s a much softer look than the Tranquil Tide base.  I used the leaves TIEF to emboss the Pear Pizazz, Tangerine Tango, and Tranquil Tide bases.  If you haven’t gotten any of these TIEF folders, you owe it to yourself to do so!  Thankfully, the basketweave TIEF is carrying over into the new catalog.

Stitched Shapes and Layering Circles die sets

I really think one of my most used die sets are the Stitched Shapes dies, followed closely by the Layering Circles dies.  Both these sets combined to create my small and sweet sentiment base.  I also used a coordinating Stamping Write marker to outline the stitched ditch on the Whisper White circles.  I really like the effect of emphasizing the ditch because, with a fast glance,  the “stitching” looks real.

Mini-dimensionals provided just enough of a pop to give the sentiment some dimension.  The colored cardstock has one regular dimensional and three mini ones (to accomodate the different layers of paper at the point).  Then I decided to use the enamel shapes in the corners of the folds to mimic buttons, or snaps.  

The sentiment is from the retired Circle of Spring stamp set.  I was surprised when I realized that this is the only stamp I have that says anything about spring.  Maybe that means I need to get more stamp sets??

Pink, Grey, and Kraft

This week’s CTD challenge is to use the soft colors of pink, grey, and kraft.  I wanted a soft floral card, so I  chose Painted Harvest stamp set used Blushing Bride and Powder Pink for the layers.  I stamped the center of each flower in Crumb Cake and used Smokey Slate for the stamped leaves.  

Layout Decisions

When starting this card, the colors and stamp set were the only things I knew I was using.  After a period of trial and error, I finally decided on the layout and elements to finish the card.  For the bottom layer, I used the new Basket TIEF on Crumb Cake cardstock, onto which I sponged Crumb Cake ink for dimension.  Smokey Slate cardstock provided the middle layer.  Crumb Cake ribbon anchored the sentiment, also from Painted Harvest,  stamped in Basic Grey on Whisper White cardstock.  I wanted a mat for the sentiment, which I punched out with the Everyday Label Punch.  I wasn’t sure how a piece of embossed cardstock would punch.  However, it was very easy to punch out the basket embossed cardstock.  Almost as an afterthought, I stamped and punched out a trio of leaves to tuck behind the sentiment.

Color Throwdown Inspiration

This inspriation photo is so peaceful, which I also wanted to convey in my card for this challenge.  A soft thank you card which matched what I wanted to accomplish.  A baby girl card is now running around in my head using these colors, so I think it’s time to create.
