More Cows for FMS399

Over the Moon for Freshly Made Sketches

It seems lately that my cards have been made with angels or cows.  After this card, I think I am going to have to put the cows away for a while.   I should be getting adorable walrus stamps this week, along with my holiday catalog pre-order.

Here’s the challenge banner:

Here’s my fun and adorable card:

The Process

For this challenge, I stamped each of the cows in Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  I then colored each of the three cows using the Basic Black, Smoky Slate, and Petal Pink blends combos.  I also used the So Saffron blends for the flower, the center of which I colored using the gold Wink of Stella.

Once again, I turned to the Stitched Shapes die set to crop the cows and the mat for the sentiment, which fit perfectly on the smallest square.  As I frequently do, I colored in the ditch of the sentiment and cow squares using a Blueberry Bushel marker.

I knew I wanted Blueberry Bushel and Basic Black to be the prominent colors behind these cute cows.  I cut my black mat, and started to dry fit the cropped squares on the front of the card, I felt that it needed something else.  Since the sketch called for the squares to be higher on the card, I first thought of ribbon to break up some of the white space below.  It didn’t work, at least I thought it did not work. I grabbed one of the cows and the Smoky Slate ink pad and started stamping.   To accomplish a softer look, I did stamp each cow off before placing it on the white background.  Mission accomplished.

When I was ready to pop up the sentiment on dimensionals to adhere it to the black mat, I realized I needed more definition between the two dark colors.  I dipped the edge of each side of the square on the StazOn White ink pad.  This little bit of extra definition allowed the sentiment to stand out even more.

Finally, I stamped the cow on the front of the envelope, and randomly on the flap to decorate the envelope.  With that, the card was done.

Petal Palette for FMS331 and PP387

Paper Players 387 and Freshly Made Sketches 331

I’ve been looking at this theme challenge all week.  I knew I wanted to use the Music Sheet background stamp and the Wood Words stamp set has the sentiment I needed.  Two color combinations were floating around in my head: Basic Black and either Cherry Cobbler or Crushed Curry.  Crushed Curry would provide a striking contrast to the Basic Black, so that’s what I chose.

Then I saw the FMS challenge for this week and it all came together in my mind.  I paired the Music Sheet and Wood Words with Petal Pallete stamp set and Petals and More thinlits.   My original thought was to emboss the Crushed Curry mat.  But then I decided to keep it simpler by stamping the music sheet in Crushed Curry on the mat.  This gives a very subtle, but much needed, texture to the base of the card.

Here’s my card:

Here are the challenge sketches:

Completely Hooked on the Petal Pallette Bundle

I am absolutely and completely hooked on this bundle.  During SAB, demonstrators were notified that the stamp set and die set are carrying over into the next annual catalog.   YEAH!!  These branches, the sentiment tag, the detailed banner, and this adorable watercolored bird stamp have been used in a number of cards over the last week or so.

In order to ensure that the sentiment tags would not appear to be floating on the card, I simply wrapped Basic Black bakers twine around the panels.  The twine almost disappears with everything else going on with the card, but it serves it’s purpose.

Have a Peachy Day!

Heartfelt Blooms for GDP # 124

CAS(E) the Designer for Global Design Project # 124

I just love the beauty of this flat stamp, free with a $50 purchase during Sale-a-Bration, and have used it a number of times.  I’ve said it before, but it’s important to remember that you do not want to to over-ink this stamp for the best results.  If you over-ink it, you will wind up with an ugly blob instead of a beautiful floral print.  For this card, I used Basic Black and Pacific Point on Whisper White.  I think this color combination is stunning, and it can also be elegant with the additional of silver metallic enamel shapes and silver thread for embellishments.

Copy and Selectively Edit for this CAS(E)

While I have been glancing at this sketch all week, this card idea literally popped in my head today.  Nothing like last minute because the challenge link closes in 4 hours.    Louise Sharp is this week’s designer, and her inspiration card follows:

The center element was created by cropping out the Bloom using the Layering Circle Dies, including the scalloped circle. Two layers of dimenstionals really allow this element to pop up off the cardstock.  My first edit is with the thread, which I put behind the circle layers.   My sentiment is on the bottom right corner instead of top right, mainly because it fit there.  The silver metallic enamel shapes were a last minute addition because I felt the card just needed a little something.

Heartfelt Blooms and Beautiful You for #tttc033

Heartfelt Blooms and Beautiful You stamp sets

This Sale-a-Bration stamp set (free with a $50 purchase) is gorgeous.  However, if you add too much ink to the stamp, it will just come out as a big blob.  Really.big.blob, which I think I have said before but is worth repeating.  The sentiments with the set are perfect for a sympathy card, especially the “Sending Heartfelt Thoughts”, but I wanted something a bit lighter for this card.  The sentiment is from the Beautiful You stamp set andI  was pleased as punch when I found that it fit on the Everyday Label punch.  The versatility of this flowered stamp makes it a must have.  Can’t you just see some fabulous birthday cards, thank you cards, thinking of you cards……….

Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge 033 board

The first column of sentiment, free, and ribbon spoke to me as soon as I saw the challenge board.  I originally needed a sympathy card for the parents of a student who died very unexpectedly.  I couldn’t bring myself to write a blog about that card, which I created using the school colors of black and gold (Crushed Curry), but I wanted to honor Elena somehow.  Enter the Emerald Envy and Basic Black card for this challenge.

Emerald Envy and Basic Black

I don’t know why, but I have been using a lot of Basic Black as an anchor color lately.  Tonight, I used it to accent the Emerald Envy as a mat for the card base and for the punch.  After I punched a label out of the black and emerald to use for the sentiment mat, each label was cut in half to just outline the ends.  I’ve found that layering halves on a variety of punches is easier using two-sided tape, which was also used to hold the ends of the ribbon on the back of the Whisper White layer.

We might as well DANCE

For as long as my daughter can remember, I have told her “I hope you dance”, and it’s one of “our” songs.  The sentiment from the Beautiful You stamp set is perfect for the times life is a bit of a struggle.

I’d love to hear your thoughts.  Please leave a comment below.

Above all else, have a Peachy day.
