Welcome to InKing Royalty’s October Blog Hop! During this year’s blog hops, we are enjoying a year of celebrations. This month’s projects celebrate Thanksgiving, so prepare yourself for Autumn landscapes, warm colors and sweet reminders of all the reasons we have to be grateful this time of year. We are excited to share our creations with you today! After you read my post, I hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.
#buildyourstashholidayhop
I saw this sketch, by Crystal O. Minkler, on Instagram. This sketch challenge is just the second of the Build Your Stash Holiday Hop. Another place for sketch inspiration is always a good thing!
Here’s my card:
Here’s the sketch from Instagram:
Following the Sketch
The base of the card is Cajun Craze, trimmed to 4-1/4 inches by 11 inches and scored at 5-1/2 inches. The Very Vanilla cardstock for the inside of the card is trimmed to 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
I followed the measurements exactly as shown on the sketch. I really thought there would be too much bulk with all the layers, but there really isn’t. All of the patterned paper, including the speckled base, comes from the Gilded Autumn DSP pack. Not only are the colors gorgeous, the patterns are all spectacular! Best part – it’s 15% off until the end of the month! SCORE!
The only place I used dimensionals was under the short ends of the sentiment panel. This allowed the sentiment to lay flat over the multiple layers of DSP and cardstock.
The Inside
I used Stamping Write markers on the four leaf stamp from Autumn Greetings to create the inside stripe on the side of the card. I colored each leaf a different color; Cajun Craze, Crushed Curry, Early Espresso, and Crumb Cake. However, I did stamp the same pattern each time.
The sentiments on the front and the inside are also from Autumn Greetings. It’s such a beautiful stamp set, and I just love the font!
I used a Very Vanilla envelope and trimmed a piece of the speckled DSP to 2-1/5 inches by 6 inches for the envelope flap. After I finished adhering that DSP to the flap, I trimmed it down. Ta-Da! I’d completed another card/envelope set.

Again, thank you for stopping by my blog today! I appreciate your time.
I live in Central Florida, about halfway between Orlando and Daytona Beach. I haven’t seen a real fall/autumn season since my youngest sister was in college. She had a swim meet in North Carolina and my parents and middle sister and I went to it. That was quite a while ago.
My daughter recently moved to northern California and will have a real autumn this year. If it wasn’t for one big problem (that which I don’t want to name tonight), I would go out there for a long weekend to see the leaves. As it is, I will just have to enjoy creating Thanksgiving cards for now.
Here’s my card for the #256 challenge:
The stamp sets I used were the Rooted in Nature and Autumn Greetings.
If you think there might be a difference between this card and the one on the Design Team page for C4G, you are correct. I knew something was off with the first card and couldn’t figure out what. As I was typing the measurements below, I realized I should have used Very Vanilla for the background on the front of the card. I’ll show you how I fixed that accident below.
Measurements
The card base is Cajun Craze trimmed to 4-1/4 inches by 11 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches.
I trimmed a piece of Crushed Curry to 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches for the mat.
Next, I trimmed two pieces of the speckled DSP. The one on the front of the card measures 1-7/8 inches by 5 inches. I trimmed another piece for the envelope flap to 2-1/2 inches by 6 inches.
The Very Vanilla piece on the top background measures 3-1/8 inches by 5 inches. Originally, I had a piece of Whisper White for the background. Since I didn’t want to recreate the card, I had to figure out how to fix my mistake without starting over. Here’s a picture showing how I did that:
TA-DA! Problem solved. After cropping out the tree, I ran the vanilla cardstock through the Big Shot in the Subtle 3D embossing folder.
I also used Very Vanilla on the inside and that piece measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
The acorn and two leaves next to the sentiment were punched out of the Gilded Autumn DSP. The Autumn Punch Pack of mini punches makes this a very simple task. Best of all – no fussy cutting! I just LOVE when punches and/or dies work on the DSP perfectly!
In order to have a border between the top and the bottom, and without getting girly, I used linen thread wrapped around the speckled DSP three times and tied it in a square knot.
The Stamp-aratus allowed me to be able to repeatedly stamp the greeting on the speckled DSP until I achieved the depth of color I wanted.
The Tree
Instead of using ink pads to color the tree, I used Stamping Write Markers and my trusty Stamp-aratus. I could not have done it without that tool.
First, I used Crumb Cake and Early Espresso to color the trunk of the tree on the stamp, then stamped it.
I used the Crushed Curry marker to color the whole canopy of the tree for the first stamping.
Next, I used the thin end of the Early Espresso marker and traced in the branched in the canopy. Using the yellow first really made it easier to see the branches.
Then I used Pumpkin Pie andCajun Craze markers and randomly colored on the stamp, then pressed it down. I repeated that step and wound up with the colors you see on the front of the card. It reminds me of autumn trees from my childhood. The only thing missing is the big pile of raked leaves under the tree, just waiting for us to jump in it and then start raking again.
I put dimensionals under the tree so it stands off the background. The Crushed Curry bottom mat peeks through under the tree.
The Inside
I used another sentiment from Autumn Greetings for the inside of the card.
Since I didn’t want just a plain piece of cardstock, I used the speckle stamp from Forever Fern. I stamped it using Crumb Cake, and each time I inked, I stamped it three times. This really gives dimension to the speckles.
Finishing Up
Finally, I adhered the speckled DSP to the envelope flap and trimmed it down. With that, I’d finished this card/envelope set.
By the time I finished typing all the directions, I’d decided that I needed to try this card again. I really think I can create a much better version, but know I can’t do that tonight.
Thank you so much for stopping by today.
I’d love to hear what you think, and greatly appreciate every comment.

Freshly Made Sketches 452 and Color Throwdown 610 came together in this card. I took advantage of all the white space for FMS610, and the ctd610 colors added interest and movement.

Measurements
I chose Cherry Cobbler, Bumblebee, Whisper White, Pumpkin Pie and Soft Suede for the autumn colors. I couldn’t figure out whether the yellow-ish option had more yellow or pumpkin color so I used both. Might not really meet the color challenge, but it’s my solution.
First, I decided to use Bumblebee for the base of the card. The cardstock measures 4-1/4 inches by 11 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches to create a tent card.
The first mat of Soft Suede measures 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches.
I trimmed two pieces of Whisper White, one for the front and one for the inside. Both pieces measure 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
#simplestamping
I used the Forever Fern stamp set to stamp the diagonally opposite corners. The splatter stamp from this set added a bit more texture to the corners. Then, I added just one splatter in the opposite corners just so it wasn’t quite so stark.
After stamping the corners, I needed to stamp the sentiment from Autumn Greetings in Soft Suede. Originally, I was going to stamp the greeting on a white oval and border it with a bit larger Soft Suede oval. However, I am thrilled that I thought about the double-time stamping option instead.
After cropping the stitched oval, I decided that I would just create an outline on the outside of the oval. To accomplish this, I used the Soft Suede marker to create the edge.
On the inside, I stamped the Cherry Cobbler and Bumblebee leaf stems and added one splatter stamp in each of the four corners.
The inside sentiment is also from the Autumn Greetings stamp set.
Time to finish the card
I used the multipurpose glue to adhere everything except the sentiment oval. Using dimensionals under the sentiment added a bit of height.
Finally, I needed to take care of decorating the envelope. Instead of DSP on the envelope flap, I used the Forever Fern to stamp the flap and on the front of the card.
With that, I’d finished this card/envelope set.
As always, thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. I’d also love to hear what you think, and greatly appreciate every comment.

The theme for this week’s Global Design Project #255 includes the use of trees or leaves. Even though I’ve used Forever Fern quite a lot lately, I still chose it for this card.
Here’s my card:
Here’s the challenge banner:
I could’ve chosen to use one of the new autumn sets for this card, but I had a picture in my head, and it definitely called for Forever Fern.
Let’s Get Started
Picking out the plaid pattern for the bottom of the card needed to be the first thing I did. The colors Cajun Craze, Shaded Spruce, and Basic Gray in this pattern had a huge amount of potential! I trimmed the plaid DSP to 1-3/4 inches by 4-1/8 inches. While I had that DSP out, I trimmed a piece to 2-1/2 inches by 6 inches for the envelope flap.
Next, I decided the base of the card needed to pull out the Shaded Spruce in the plaid, I used it for the base. I trimmed it to 4-1/4 inches by 11 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches to create a tent card.
The Whisper White layer followed my usual mat size of 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches. I stamped the splotches in Basic Gray three times before reinking. originally, I thought I’d stamp sporadically. However, I got carried away and stamped all over the white cardstock.
I decided I needed some sort of separation between the plaid and the white cardstock. Therefore, I used a piece of the Basic Gray DSP trimmed to 1/4 inch by 4-1/8 inches.
Additionally, I wanted something to tie all the leaves together. So, I cropped a piece of Smoky Slate using the largest circle from the Stitched Shapes die set. To create the ring, I used the closest fitting circle from the Layered Circles die set.
In order to give some height to the focal arrangment of leaves and stems, I cropped a piece of the same Basic Gray pattern using the largest spray of leaves in the die set.
Stamping and Assembling
I stamped two leaf sprays in each of the Cajun Craze and Shaded Spruce colors. Next, I stamped the center spray in Basic Gray. Even though I now had six leaf/stem sprays, I achieved the odd number balance with the Smoky Slate cardstock ring.
After cropping out the stamped images, I simply played around with different arrangements before adhering anything down. Once I found an arrangment I liked, I took a picture of it, which makes it so much easier to reconstruct the arrangment.
I used the multipurpose liquid glue to adhere all the pieces down, starting with the ring of cardstock and working my way forward.
Next, I stamped the greeting in Shaded Spruce and cropped it using the Stitched Rectangle die. I placed dimensionals on the back of the sentiment panel to give it some dimension.
At this point, I thought I had finished the card. However, it didn’t look finished because it felt unconnected. Ribbon would have been too much. Thankfully, I had some Cajun Craze baker’s twine left from last Thanksgiving. I made a bow using a technique I’d seen on a few of Mary Deatherage’s, with Stamps-n-Lingers, FaceBook lives and her videos. Can’t for the life of me remember what she called it. This is one of the first times I’ve created one of these bows with which I was happy. I attached the bow off-centered and right where the Basic Gray DSP meets the arrangment. Since the tails are long enough to fall over the sentiment, I had connected all the elements together.
After I adhered and trimmed the piece of the plaid DSP to the envelope flap, I’d finished this card/envelope set.
