Christmas Critters for the August Sparkles Christmas Challenge!

Welcome to the July, 2024 edition of the Sparkles Christmas Challenge! Our host for # 163, Melanie., chose Christmas Critters for our theme. When you get finished here, I hope you will visit the challenge site to view the creations from the very talented members of our design team. After you’ve created your own themed card, please don’t forget to upload it to our gallery.

Here’s my Christmas Critters card:

Once again, I used the retired Beary Christmas stamp set and punch. I did have to fussy cut the baby polar bear, the gift, and the tree, but there weren’t too complicated to cut out, even if you are left-handed like me.

Measurements & More:

  • Unless otherwise noted, I used multipurpose liquid glue to adhere the pieces of the card together
  • The Night of Navy base measures 5-1/2 by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches to create a tent fold
  • I used another piece of Night of Navy cardstock measuring 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches for the background
  • The Beary Christmas stamp set has two sizes of snowflake stamps. I stamped them randomly using Versamark ink on the background. I added clear embossing powder and heat set.
  • I stamped the sentiment in VersaMark ink as well and covered it in white embossing powder, then heat set the sentiment
  • Using the Countryside Corners die set, I cropped the center out of a piece of Real Red cardstock measuring 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches. Then, I added a bunch of dimensionals to the back of the Real Red frame and adhered it to the Night of Navy background
  • The present was also stamped using VersaMark ink on a scrap of Real Red cardstock. Once again, I covered it in white embossing powder, heat set it, and fussy cut it
  • I used Mossy Meadow to stamp the tree outline and inside on Old Olive cardstock and fussy cut the tree
  • The polar bears were stamped using Momento Tuxedo Black ink
  • Use the light Smoky Slate blend to add shading to the polar bears. I used the bears on the DSP as my guide.
  • Punch the adult bear and fussy cut the baby bear
  • Stamp the beanie and scarf on white cardstock scraps using Old Olive ink and fussy cut both
  • After dry-fitting the cutouts, I added dimensionals to the back of them only where they would not be touching the Real Red frame. I used liquid glue where the parts would touch the frame.

Thank you for stopping by my abbreviated post for Sparkles Christmas Challenge!

Have a Peachy Day!

Ribbon or Twine for the May 2024 Sparkles Christmas Challenge

Welcome to the March, 2024 edition of the Sparkles Christmas Challenge! Our host for # 160, Billie A., chose Using Ribbon or Twine for our theme. When you get finished here, I hope you will visit the challenge site to view the creations from the very talented members of our design team. After you’ve created your own themed card, please don’t forget to upload it to our gallery.

Here’s my Real Red ribbon Christmas card:

While I used retired products for this card, I hope you can use the layout to create easy-peasy Christmas cards for yourself. Actually, this layout would be fabulous for so many other occasions for which you need a quick card.

Measurements & Assembly:

  • Unless otherwise noted, I used multipurpose liquid glue to adhere the pieces together.
  • The Real Red base measures 8-1/2 by 5-1/2, scored at 4-1/4 to create a tent card.
  • After you run a piece of Balmy Blue cardstock through your Cut & Emboss machine in the Christmas Tidings 3d embossing folder, trim the cardstock to 4-1/8 by 5-3/4 inches.
  • The Beary Christmas piece of DSP (designer series paper) measures 2 by 5-3/8 inches.
  • Trim another piece of DSP to 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.
  • Punch a 1-inch circle from coordinating DSP and run it through your XYRON create-a-sticker for the envelope seal.
  • Trim two pieces of Real Red cardstock to 5-3/8 by 1/2 inches to adhere to the back of the DSP so it forms a border.
  • Wrap a length of Real Red ribbon around the DSP piece and tie it in a bow.
  • Adhere to the embossed Balmy Blue cardstock.
  • Stamp your sentiment on white cardstock using Real Red ink.
  • Crop the sentiment using a square die from the Stylish Shapes die set.
  • Trim a piece of Real Red cardstock to create a border for the sentiment block.
  • Adhere the sentiment piece to the red cardstock.
  • Add dimensionals to the back of the red cardstock so that they will straddle the ribbon, and adhere to the DSP.
  • Trim a piece of white cardstock to 4 by 5-1/4 inches and stamp your sentiment on it using Real Red ink.
  • Adhere the white cardstock to the inside of the card.
  • With that, you’ve finished this easy-peasy coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.

A Double Box Fold for the January Sparkles Christmas Challenge #181

Welcome to the February Sparkles Christmas Challenge #181! I can’t believe it’s already February ~ what happened to January and the somewhat good weather for Central Florida? The wind chills this weekend are in the teens so we are under severe weather/freeze warnings. Craziness!

Please check out the challenges page for the creations by the other very talented design team members. When you’ve created your own card using our theme, please don’t forget to upload them to the challenges. We’d love for you to play along.

Dawn, our host for the Sparkles Christmas Challenge, chose Baubles for the theme. I used the Modern Christmas suite and created a double box fold card.

Here’s my card:

I’ve already posted cards using this same fold, and you can see them here, here and here.

I originally found this card on the Wandering Stamper’s YouTube channel. You can see that tutorial here.

As always with a fun fold card, I will be adding this to the Creative Creases Challenge where the theme is always Anything Goes with a Fun Fold.

Template:

Of course, I had to make a template for this fun fold, which you can see below:

Hints:

  • I find it much easier to watch a video than trying to follow written directions, so I highly recommend you watch the Wandering Stamper’s video after you use the above template to trim your papers
  • Another thing I find that works for me is to trim all my papers before starting anything else on the card
  • Once all the pieces are trimmed, I can add the DSP (designer series paper) to the envelope flap and put all the pieces in the envelope until I can finish it
  • Since this card will be hand-delivered, I didn’t need to worry too much about the bulkiness of the card
  • If you do need to mail the card, you very well might have to use extra postage even without using any dimensionals., ribbon, or enamel dots

Endless Love for Valentine’s Day!

I’ve been making class sets of Valentine’s Day cards for my current second-grade great-niece and current kindergarten great-nephew for a few years. This year, I will be using the Endless Love Suite. Even though the DSP is currently unavailable, the bundle is still available and I will be busy using it for the next 10 days or so. It’s so much easier to figure out a couple of designs for each class and just mass-produce the cards. I use the Basic White Note Cards & Envelopes, and cut each notecard in half for a mini-postcard Valentine.

Here’s a look at the bundle and note cards:

This is a Two-Step Stampin’ set; it allows you to layer two or more images to create one final image with extra texture and dimension in the colors you want.

DETAILS
– Includes the Endless Love Stamp Set and Endless Love Dies
– 16 photopolymer stamps
– Suggested clear blocks (sold separately): b, c, d, h
– Two-Step
– Also available in French
– 13 dies
– Largest die: 3-3/4″ x 4-1/4″ (9.5 x 10.8 cm)
– Use with a Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine (sold separately)

Use Your Stars for Sparkles Buddies Challenge # 138

Welcome to the July Sparkles Buddies Christmas challenge!  Heather, our host for challenge #138, chose stars for the theme of this month’s challenge.  When you finish here, I hope you will visit the challenge page to get inspired to play along with this month’s challenge.  The possibilities are endless!

Here’s my starry card:

I find it difficult to part with some retired Stampin’ Up! products. This 2021 Christmas DSP (designer series paper) and the Curvy Christmas stamp set and coordinating dies still remain in my stash. At first, I thought I’d use the DSP because of the stars in the pattern. Then, when I pulled the stamp and die sets, I happily saw the star stamps and decided to use them in my card.

Measurements:

  • The Misty Moonlight base measures 11 by 4-1/4 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches to create a tent fold.
  • The white layer on the front measures 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches. The white inside panel measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
  • I trimmed the DSP layer to 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches. At this point, I also trimmed a piece to 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.
  • The Misty Moonlight cardstock measures 2-1/8 inches at it’s highest point. The cardstock measures 4 inches wide.

What I Did:

  • The process for making the card turned out to be short and sweet.
  • After cropping the Misty Moonlight cardstock with the curvy die, I wiped it down with my embossing buddy, which has returned in the 2022 – 2023 annual catalog! YEAH!
  • Next, I stamped the sentiment using VersaMark, then covered it with white embossing powder, which I heat set with my heat tool.
  • I added dimensionals to the back of this cardstock after I cropped it and heat set the sentiment.
  • Next, I wiped down the DSP with my embossing buddy. Then, I stamped the curvy line of Christmas trees and some of both sizes of the stars using Versamark. After that, I covered it all with white embossing powder and heat set it.
  • I added a Misty Moonlight ribbon wrapped around the cardstock and tied it in a square knot.
  • Then, I turned my attention to the inside of the card. Using Misty Moonlight ink, I stamped the curvy sentiment and line of Christmas trees on the inside panel.
  • All of the layers, with the exception of the cardstock on dimensionals, were adhered using multipurpose liquid glue.
  • Finally, I trimmed the DSP on the envelope flap and punched a 1 inch circle for the envelope seal. As always, my XYRON create-a-sticker made the envelope seal possible.
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.

Sparkles Christmas Challenge #180 is for the Animals & Trees

Welcome to the first Sparkles Christmas Challenge for 2026! I can’t believe it’s already New Year’s Day!

Billie A., our host for the Sparkles Christmas Challenge, chose Animals & a Tree for the theme. I used the same fun fold I’ve already used so many times for Christmas and New Year’s cards, but I just love it for using 5-1/2 by 12 inch pieces of DSP (designer series paper).

Please check out the challenges page for the creations by the other very talented design team members. When you’ve created your own card using our theme, please don’t forget to upload them to the challenges. We’d love for you to play along.

Here’s my card:

I used the Beary Christmas DSP and the punch from a few years ago. I needed to fussy cut the inside tree and baby polar bear. Both sentiments come from the Beary Christmas stamp set.

I’ve posted so many cards using this fold, and you can see some of them here, here, here, and here.

The Template and More:

I know I had seen a video for a 4 panel accordion fold using a piece of DSP measuring 5-1/2 by 12 inches. I used it for this card, and for some strange and unknown reason, didn’t write down the source, even though I am fairly certain it was a video tutorial from the annual catalog DSP.

Therefore, I used the measurements from Connie Stewart’s tutorial from April 3, 2025 for measurements to make my template. Here it is:

  • Since the base of this card is DSP, I added a piece of 4-1/4 by 5-1/2 inches piece of cardstock to the back of the last panel of the DSP
  • You will need a piece of DSP measuring 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap
  • Punch a 1-inch circle from coordinating DSP and run it through the XYRON create-a-sticker for the envelope seal
  • For this card, I did adhere the front flap to the second flap after adding the ribbon
    • In order for the DSP to not bend after adding the ribbon, I adhered two pieces of cardstock measuring 1/2 by 5-1/2 inches long to either side of the first fold
    • This explains why I adhered the first fold closed
  • I used the Everyday Arches dies and to crop the white, Real Red, and the DSP layers
  • Then, I ran the outside Real Red arch through the Cut & Emboss machine using the Birch Wood embossing folder to add texture and interest
  • This card is bulky and will probably need extra postage, however it will still fit inside a Stampin’ Up! medium envelope
  • Because of the bulk, I only used dimensionals to adhere the sentiment on the front, which I cropped using the Stylish Shapes die
  • I used a mini-glue dot to secure the bow
  • Other than those two things, I used multipurpose liquid glue to adhere everything else together

With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.

Have a Peachy Day!
