Party Fun with the December IRBH!

Welcome to InKing Royalty’s December Blog Hop! During this year’s blog hops, we are having fun with our stamping favorites – our favorite themes for seasonal cards and projects. This month’s projects are all about party fun – festive gatherings like New Year’s, birthdays and other fun times. How fun! We are excited to share our creations with you today! After you read my post, I hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.

First and foremost – a great big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our fearless leader, Brian King!  My party card for this blog hop just happens to be for a very special birthday!

Here’s my card:

I’ve already posted cards made with the layering diorama dies and you can see one of those posts here. For that post, I created a faux shaker card, but did include multiple pictures of hos I layered the diorama die cuts. The Party Puffin card has three layers: white is adhered directly to the DSP, the Granny Apple Green is popped up on dimensionals, as is the Misty Moonlight layer. The double layer of dimensionals for the layering dies also means I need to use a double layer of dimensionals on the foremost puffin on the right and behind the cake.

Measurements:

  • While it probably would’ve been easier to create a tent fold card, I went with a side fold. Therefore, the Granny Apple Green base measures 11 inches by 4-1/4 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches.
  • The piece of white cardstock for the back layering diorama mat measured 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches. I trimmed another piece of white cardstock to the same measurements for the inside of the card.
  • The Granny Apple Green cardstock measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches. The Misty Moonlight top layer measures 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches. Originally, I thought about using an embossing folder to give the Misty Moonlight cardstock some texture. Then, I decided I’d just randomly stamp the trio of candles on it instead. I did stamp off each time I stamped so the candles wouldn’t be too dark.
  • This Pattern Party Host 12 x 12″ DSP (designer series paper) stack is full of fun colors and patterns. Not into so much color? The reverse side of each of the 48 (yes, 48!!) sheets is black and white. All of those patterns are fabulous as well. Anyway, I trimmed the piece for the front of the card to 4-1/8 inches to 5-3/8 inches. I used a piece trimmed to 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.

What Else I Did:

  • I used quite a number of dimensionals on this card. Not as many as on the shaker card for which I included the link above, but dimensionals definitely hold this card together.
  • After stamping the puffins and the cake in Momento Tuxedo black, I fussy cut each piece. I’m getting better and a bit faster at fussy cutting. If you are left-handed, you understand why this is a big deal.
  • Since Pale Papaya is a color in the DSP, I decided to use the blends combo for the beak and feet of the puffins. I used the light Smoky Slate blend for the beak as well. I decided to color the candle flames in Pale Papaya as well
  • Then, I used the bullet end of the Granny Apple Green and Misty Moonlight blends for the cake and the party hat.
  • I stamped the sentiments for both the inside and the outside in Misty Moonlight. The outside sentiment is cropped using the rectangle stitched dies.
  • Since I thought some additional color was needed on the inside, I stamped 3 fishes around the sentiment. Even though the fish have a bow, somehow I thought it would be creepy to have the fish for a present for the birthday puffin.

Finishing Up:

  • After I had everything together and adhered, I wanted something else, but knew I needed something subtle. So, I used the fine tip glue pen to color the Misty Moonlight semi-circles and the Granny Apple Green part of the birthday hat. I couldn’t just stop and leave the cake alone and naked, so I all use the glue pen on the colored parts of the cake.

HINT: Make sure you allow the glue to completely dry before you try to move the card. I’ve been impatient with that before and it didn’t work well. Here’s a close-up of the DIY epoxy dots I created (thanks to Brian King’s fabulous idea!).

  • Finally, I trimmed the DSP on the envelope flap and punched a 1 inch circle to run through the XYRON create-a-sticker for the envelope seal. With that, I’d finished this very layered card, envelope, and seal coordinated set.

Peaceful Place for the November Pals Blog Hop

Welcome to the Stampin’ Pretty Pals’ Blog Hop! This month, the theme is “Home for the Holidays”. We really hope that you enjoy and are inspired by them! As you hop from blog to blog, don’t forget to leave comments because we love hearing from you. You will find the lineup at the end of my post to help you “hop” along from Pal to Pal.

People say “three times a charm, and my card for this hop definitely qualifies.  I’d already created two cards that I thought I would use for tonight.  When I got to work this morning I changed my mind again and came home to create.

Lately, I have been reminiscing about times I have spent in the mountains in New York, New England, and California.  I miss them.  I miss the beauty of freshly fallen snow and the crispness of a winter day.  If I could, I would definitely go to the mountains for the holidays.

I previously posted another shaker card using the Beauty of the Earth DSP and the Whimsical Trees bundle.  You can see that card here.   That shaker card was definitely a learning experience, and the card for this hop was much easier to put together.

I wanted to keep this shaker card as clean as possible, and the neutral colors definitely make this a clean card.  I did use Night of Navy for the base just to add a bit of color.

Here’s my shaker card:

Measurements:

  • The Night of Navy base measures 5-1/2 inches by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches to create a tent card.
  • The snowflake DSP (designer series paper) measures 4-1/4 inches by 5-1/2 inches. I also trimmed a piece to 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.
  • I used glossy white cardstock for the underlayer. It measures 5-3/8 inches by 4-1/8 inches.
  • The cabin pattern DSP measures 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches.
  • As always, the white cardstock for the inside measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.

What I Did — with Pictures:

  • I thought it would be much easier to explain what I did if I added a bunch of pictures.
  • The first thing I did was crop both the snowflake DSP and the glossy white cardstock using the layering diorama dies. For this card, I used the second and third largest dies. I cropped the DSP first, then laid that paper down on the glossy white so I could figure out where I had to crop the inner layering die.

  • Next, I grabbed my clear Wink of Stella and dabbed tiny dots on each pine tree on the cabin DSP pattern. I didn’t color or cover the whole tree, just dabs. As you know Wink of Stella is hard to catch in a picture, but, I tried. Interestingly, the tree at the top next to the A-frame cabin shows the sparkle the best.
  • I decided to do the Wink of Stella at this point because I wanted to make sure it dried thoroughly.
  • Next, I adhered the glossy white cardstock to the back of the snowflake DSP. Take your time with this step so you can get it right where you want it, which is essential.
  • HINT: If you use the multipurpose liquid adhesive for this step, you will have a few seconds to move the glossy white paper if needed.
  • My next step was to place the dimensionals on the back of the glossy white cardstock. When I made the first diorama card, I found that there’s no such thing as too many dimensionals when trying to make a shaker card. The dimensionals provide the height I wanted, but if each section isn’t supported well enough, the top will start to cave in on the shaker part. As you can see, I used regular and mini dimensionals, as well as the “bones” for the straight sections.

It’s Shaker Time:

  • Since I gave the Wink of Stella time to dry, I turned to the shaker part of the card.
  • I feel like cheating any time I use one of the clear medium envelopes to create a shaker card, but they make it so incredibly easy to do!
  • The DSP needs to be positioned so it is right down at the bottom of the envelope and in a corner.

  • Once the DSP is positioned, the extra flap of the clear envelope needs to be folded over and adhered. Trust me, you want to use something strong. In the above photo, you can see I chose to use the tear-and-tape. Remember that you want the open end of the envelope facing up.
  • HINT: First, burnish the tear-and-tape with your bone folder. Then you can use the spatula end of the Take-Your-Pick tool to gently lift the edge of the cover of the tape.
  • Next, I added the shaker “stuff” to the front side of the envelope. I used Kosher Salt with a very small amount of Dazzling Diamonds (glitter works as well), and some of the subtle shimmer sequins. It doesn’t take much stuffing, and a tablespoon in all is more than enough.
  • Since glitter sticks to EVERYTHING, the dabs of Wink of Stella will now have more of a shimmer, even though it was dried already.
  • Time to close the clear envelope. I used many strips of tear-and-tape when folding over and sealing the flap of the envelope. No matter how much anyone shakes this card, nothing will escape.
  • Next, I very, very carefully adhered the shaker card to the dimensionals on the back of the front of the card. I really took my time to make sure that I positioned it as centered as possible.
  • Then, I turned the layers over to add tear-and-tape to the back of the clear envelope so I could adhere the top to the base. Again, I used a bunch of tear-and-tape.

  • Once I had very, very carefully adhered the top to the base, I pressed down to make sure the tape adhered. There is no wiggle time with tear-and-tape, so don’t press down until you are sure of your placement.
  • Here’s a look at the front of the card after shaking all the stuffing:

Finishing Up:

  • I used a piece of scrap white cardstock for the front sentiment then cropped it. This sentiment comes from the Merry Snowflakes cling stamp set. Since I stamped it in Night of Navy, I outlined the sentiment panel using the same color marker.
  • I used my very favorite “Merry Christmas” sentiment from Perfectly Plaid and another sentiment from Merry Snowflakes for the inside.
  • Finally, I used Smoky Slate to stamps random snowflakes on the border of the inside panel and on the front bottom of the envelope.
  • All that remains was to trim the DSP on the envelope flap. Then I punched a coordinating piece of DSP using my 1 inch circle punch and ran it through the XYRON create-a-sticker.
  • With that, I’d finished my coordinated card/envelope/seal set.

More inspiration awaits, so use the lineup below to visit the rest of the Design Team. The Pals are excited to show you what they’ve created! Then, please mark your calendars for our next blog hop on December 8th. Our theme will be “My Favorite Things” with our design team showcasing some of their favorite products from any catalog they choose.

Until then, have fun in your craft space.

Summer Fun for Make My Monday #176

Welcome to the newest MMM challenge.  It’s my turn to host the challenge, and I chose summer fun.  When you finish here, I hope you will visit the Make My Monday challenge blog to see what the rest of the design team created for their own summer fun.

My summer fun card needs to be explained a little bit.  My family has been going to the beach for a week at the same place for 45 years, with the exception of 2020 for obvious reasons.  It started with just my parents and siblings, along with my aunt and cousin.  Since then, we’ve added two more generations and everyone starts counting down the days until the next beach week as soon as the current one ends.

Here’s my stepped up summer fun card:

I also created a more basic card with less supplies:

This stunning DSP (designer series paper) has been sold out, but these cards can be created without the paper by just using the Waves of Inspiration bundle.  Here’s a look at the inside of both cards to show off the wave in the stamp set:

For the purpose of the challenge post, I’ll share what I did for the more involved card:

Measurements:

  • The Pacific Point base measures 5-1/2 by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches to create a tent card.
  • I trimmed a piece of Coastal Cabana and Pacific Point cardstock to 4-1/4 by 5-1/2 inches.
  • Next, I used the second and third largest layering diorama dies to crop the Pacific Point and Coastal Cabana cardstock. In order to accomplish an even layer of depth between the two layers, I used a lot (!!!) of dimensionals and mini-dimensionals on the underside of the Pacific Point cardstock.
  • The DSP background paper measures 4-1/4 inches by 5-1/2 inches. Since I had the DSP out, I trimmed another piece to 6 x 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap. Then, I punched a 1 inch circle from coordinating DSP for the envelope seal. As always, I ran the circle through my XYRON create-a-sticker and finished off the seal.
  • I trimmed the white cardstock for the inside of the card to 4 by 5-1/4 inches.

Stamping and Such:

  • I started by using the Gentle Waves background stamp and Pacific Point ink on the same colored cardstock for the top layer of the card. The cardstock is a bit larger than the stamp. Therefore, the first time I stamped it, I made sure the bottom waves lined up where I wanted them. Then, I just reinked the top part of the stamp to fill in the top of the cardstock.
  • Next, I stamped the sentiment from the Happy and Heartfelt stamp set, in black ink on white cardstock. I also stamped the pilings and pelican on white cardstock using Basic Gray ink.
  • I wanted the rope around the pilings to have dimension, so I added baker’s twine around following the stamped rope. In order to get thinner twine, I pulled just one thread out of a length of twine and used that.
  • I cropped the sentiment using one of the new stylish shapes dies. These dies are fabulous and a must have!
  • Then, I cropped the pelican and pilings and the wave using the waves dies.
  • Next, I added some shimmery paste to the wave using a craft stick.
  • Before I adhered the dimensionals on the layering diorama pieces, I adhered the wave to the back of the Pacific Point cardstock. Then, I started cutting mini-dimensionals into quarters. This was interesting, to say the least. I’m not 100% happy with the way the dimensionals came out, so I will probably redo them very, very, very carefully.
  • All I had to do was the inside of the card. I used Coastal Cabana and stamped the wave on the white cardstock. Without re-inking, I stamped the front of the envelope as well.
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.

(E)scape is the Theme for MMM #160

Welcome back to another Make My Monday challenge!  Caz chose the theme of (es)cape for #160.  I hope you will hop over the the challenge blog and check out the wide variety of cards from the other design team members!  What kind of (e)scape will you create!  Post your project to the blog at Make My Monday for all to see.

My card is a double (es)cape card.  I created a land(scape) Christmas shaker card because I would love to e(scape) to see a white Christmas this year.

Here’s my card:

Measurements:

  • The Night of Navy card base measures 8-1/2 inches by 5-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches to create a tent fold card.
  • The DSP (designer series paper) for the front of the card comes from the Beauty of the Earth DSP pack. This piece measures 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches.
  • I used another DSP pattern from Beauty of the Earth for the envelope flap. This piece measures 2-1/2 inches by 6 inches.
  • The white cardstock for the front of the shaker card measures 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches.
  • The white cardstock for the inside panel of the card measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
  • I stamped the sentiment for the outside on scrap white cardstock. Then, I cropped it using a stitched rectangle die.

How I Made the Card:

I made a video while creating the second version of this card. I thought that would be easier than trying to explain the process of making the shaker part of the card.

Please “like” the video if you do. If you subscribe to my channel, which is brand new, you will be notified of future videos. My goal is to create one a week for starters. Thank you!

Fun Folds Abound for Sparkles Christmas Buddies Challenge #135

Welcome to the April, 2022 Sparkles Christmas Buddies Challenge # 135.  I am hosting this month, and chose fun folds for the theme.  When you finish here, I hope you will visit the challenge website.  The other design team members really hit it out of the park (baseball reference) with their cards!

Once again, I chose to work with the Santa’s Suit stamp set and coordinating dies.  I know I used the extra pieces I had leftover from some previous Christmas cards for March, and you can see that card here.  However, since I created the March card, I was able to purchase the retired stamp set and coordinating dies and I couldn’t be happier!

Here’s my fun fold Christmas card:

I just posted another double easel card, with a link to the video from Mary Deatherage of Stamps-n-Lingers I used for directions.  You can find that post here.  The measurements for the bases of this card are the same as my previous double easel card and Mary’s card.

What I Did:

  • I used Cherry Cobbler for the major base and Sahara Sand for the easel base. Then, I used coordinating DSP for the layers.
  • To create the mounds of snow, I used the layering diorama dies. Who knew, right? But they worked perfectly, at least in my humble opinion.
  • To create the shadows on the layers of snow, I used a very dry blending brush and Smoky Slate ink.
  • I adhered the bottom snow mounds directly to the DSP layers. The top layers of snow mounds are popped up on dimensionals. Santa, the front sentiment, and the suit pieces also got popped up on dimensionals.
  • The suit pieces were all stamped in Momento Tuxedo Black ink and then again using the coordinating stamps in Cherry Cobbler.
  • I used two very thin strips of black cardstock for the laundry poles and black baker’s twine for the laundry line. Those cute little clothespins are from the Santa’s Suit stamp and die sets.

I hope you like this stamp and die set because I will, in all probability be using it again as I work my way through making Christmas cards.

Thank you very much for stopping by my blog today!
