Zany Zebras for CAS on Friday #183

This Zany Zebra stamp set is way too cute! I have a card club at school and we make cards for kids going through cancer treatments. I can’t wait to share this set with the club! Of course, the sentiment would be different than on my card today.

Clean and Simple

Sometimes the clean and simple challenges require a great deal of thought. Not so with this card. The boldness of the new Magenta Madness color made me want to tone it down with hues of grey. I’m trying to let this color grow on me and this combination seemed like a good place to start.

Both the strips of DSP come from the neutrals and In Color 6 x 6 inch DSP stacks.

I stamped this adorable running zebra in Momento Tuxedo Black and added the “grass” underneath her in Magenta Madness. She fit perfectly inside this Stitched So Sweetly frame! At first, I thought it would look odd in the middle with the top and bottom open. However, the placement of the sentiment fixed that concern. I stamped the sentiment in Magenta Madness, and added the stars, before cropping it out using the Stitched Rectangle die.

Since I knew I didn’t want a plain white cardstock background, I chose to run it through the Big Shot using the subtle embossing folder.

Clean and Simple, to me for this card, also meant cutting back on layers. Therefore, I used the brush end of my Magenta Madness marker to color the outline edges of the zebra’s banner. To add some depth, and mainly to tone down the pink, I added just a hint of a mat layer of Basic Black at the top of the zebra’s focal point. Then, I outlined the sentiment block using the brush end of the Basic Black marker.

Once I got all my pieces together, I decided I just needed a little embellishment at the corner of the focal image and the sentiment. I thought the polka dot tulle ribbon would fit because it is so light, airy, and dotted like the DSP behind it.

Finishing Up

Because I made the base of the card Magenta Madness, I needed to add a piece of white inside for the greeting and note. When I put white inside, I usually cut the cardstock down to 4 inches x 5-1/4 inches, which is what I did with this card as well.

I stamped the zebra in the corner in black and the sentiments in the bright magenta. There’s some stars inside as well, which also ties the inside and the outside together.

All I had to do was adhere a different magenta DSP pattern to the envelope flap, then stamp a zebra in the bottom corner of the front of the envelope. With that, I’d finished this card/envelope set.
