Freshly Made Sketches 417
Each week, FMS crowns a new “Queen of Clean” winner. Sometimes, it’s easy to create a clean card. Sometimes it’s not. My card for FMS417 was somewhere in the middle.
Here’s the challenge sketch:
The sketch is very definitely clean, but I really, really wanted to use some of the Golden Honey DSP. Quite frankly, I adore this DSP and will be ordering another pack with my next qualifying order since it’s FREE during Sale-a-Bration! Yes, FREE I tell you!
Here’s my card:
What I Did
I needed to pick a piece of this (FREE with qualifying order) DSP that looks light and airy. This flower pattern fit the bill. The flower DSP gave me the inspiration for the focal image: the vase and flower sprays. The Honey Bee bundle makes it so easy to stamp and crop these flowers.
So Saffron’s soft pastel color coordinated beautifully with the fresh and clean challenge sketch. I didn’t color any of the flowers on the background piece of DSP. For these flowers, I wound up using the Stamping Write marker as my coloring tool of choice. I tried using the blends combo, and they just didn’t work for me. The resulting color on the flowers seemed too deep for the card, so I went with the marker. I left the stems and leaves black so I would only have three colors on the card, again looking for a clean card.
The Subtles DSP in this random dot pattern allows the vase to be playful and airy. Finally, I decided to use the smallest square die from the Stitched Shapes die set.
This happy and versatile sentiment fit beautifully inside the thinnest die from the Stitched Rectangle die set. I knew I needed something to tie the vase and sentiment together while also grounding both. I chose the Flax Ribbon and simply wrapped it around the card, adhering it in the back with double-sided tape.
This sentiment is so versation that it can be used for birthday, congratulations, supportive, or here for you cards.
Putting It Together
Using the flax ribbon meant I needed to do something to the sentiment block to make it stand out as a separate element. Therefore, I outlined it with the brush end of my Stamping Write So saffron marker.
After putting all these elements together, I originally thought I would be done with the card. I was wrong. I kept squinting at it (meaning I owe my upline, Brian King, another nickel) and decided to find a very, very subtle embellishment. Enter the Pearl Basic Jewels which I easily colored using the Stamping Blends. I used the So Saffron dark blend, and achieved the look I wanted: three tiny circle of just-there color for the centers of three flowers.
Then all I needed to do was the envelope. I stamped two of the flower sprays on the front, bottom, left corner and which I colored.
I cut a piece of the flower DSP pattern and decided I needed to color every flower. Coloring in those flowers really gives the DSP a different look. I can almost see a card with the colored flowers taking shape in my mind.
As always,
Thank you so very much for stopping by my blog today. I appreciate your the time you take to read, and comment, on my blog.
Have a Peachy Day!
