I needed to create a sympathy card for a good friend whose father passed away suddenly a few days ago. Those cards are never easy to create, but Sunday Stamps color challenge gave me a neutral color palette and the Rooted in Nature stamp set and Nature’s Roots die set gave me the inspiration.
Here’s the challenge banner for this week’s challenge, SSC221:
Here’s my card:
SSC221 – Stay Neutral
The challenge required at least three of the neutral colors to be used. I could add in another color as long as the focal images were neutrals. I used Basic Black for the first mat and the sentiment. The background trees were stamped in Smoky Slate on Whisper White. I stamped the tree on Basic Grey using Versamark, then embossed the image with white embossing powder. The mat for the sentiment is also Basic Grey. Since I used four of the neutral colors I could add another color.
I love the In Color 2019 – 2020 of Seaside Spray. Love. It’s one of my favorite blues ever, and it pairs so well with this neutral color palette. Therefore, I used Seaside Spray for the base of the card and the sentiment layer, and the stunning ribbon from the holiday catalog. I ordered two extra rolls of it before Christmas and still have enough to use for quite a while, even though it retires at 2:00 AM ET.
I cropped both sentiment layers using one of my favorite die sets, the Rectangle Stitched framelits. The stitching gives such a finished and professional look to any paper cropped with them. They have become my go-to dies. I especially love to use them to crop out the centers of mats to save on cardstock and also lighten the card just a smidge.
As always,
Thank you so very much for stopping by my blog today. I appreciate your the time you take to read, and comment, on my blog.
Have a Peachy Day!
Sue
