Miss Sass is turning 2!

Miss Sass is my great-niece and she’s turning 2!  I’ve already done the baby shower for my pregnant niece.  Last summer I did the vast majority of Little Miss Sass’ first birthday party.   Both parties, the decorations, and the themed snacks, were a big hit.  I’ve been working with my niece for a number of horse-themed 2nd birthday party ideas since Miss Sass is a HUGE horse lover.  My sister has 5 horses who love Miss Sass as much as she loves them.

This card for Freshly Made Sketches 341 was my sample for the thank you cards after the party.  My niece loved them, and the Melon Mambo boots match Miss Sass’.  Melon Mambo, and other pinks, are the party colors.  Fun!

Here’s my card:

Here’s the sketch for Freshly Made Sketches 341:

FMS is the Perfect Sketch for this card

When I knew I  needed to have a card with the boots and also a sentiment, I remembered this week’s sketch.  Impeccable, and lucky, timing!  I used the Country Living stamp set for the boots then colored them with the Melon Mambo, Basic Black, and Petal Pink (top inside of boots) Stamping Write markers.  A quick layer of Wink of Stella clear and the coloring was done.

The longest part of this card was trying to figure out what shape would be best for both the boots and the sentiment.  I tried all kinds of sizes of circles, and then started with squares.  Happiness followed when I was able to match the boots’ dimensions with a square from the Stitched Shapes die set.  I pulled out the Melon Mambo marker again to outline the stitched ditch.

The All Things Thanks stamp set provided the sentiment, and it is perfect for this card.  I know the sketch calls for the sentiment in the middle of the card, but I needed an element on the bottom left side.   I cropped the sentiment using the Layering Squares framelits.

Garden Impressions DSP boasts a gorgeous set of patterns in this 6 x 6 stack, and it provided the perfect center banner.  The card needed something else in the middle, so I pulled out the retired Melon Mambo ribbon, which was leftover from Miss Sass’ baby shower.

Hint of Layers

The banner, boots, and sentiment needed a mat, but I didn’t want to put an actual mat underneath each piece.  Therefore, I outined these elements with Melon Mambo ink and I achieved the look of a mat without actually creating one.

My final decision was to use the Decorative Dots embossing folder for the Whisper White layer.  I really think these dots create a playful element to the card.

One down, 19 to go

I’ve got 2 months to make 19 more of these.  However, we are moving in a month and 4 days.  These will be done before we move, as will as many decorations as possible.

Thank you for stopping by my blog!

Have a Peachy Day!
